2020 Applicants, Ask Questions Here!

Hello, Can anyone who got accepted tell me if Cornell asked for their first quarter grades? They didn’t ask for mine and I’m lowkey freaking out. I applied ED.

@AyeAyeron10 It’s possible your guidance counselor sent them for you if Cornell didn’t contact you, so you should really consult with them to find out if they’ve been sent.

@IndoorCloud25 Did Cornell ask you for yours?

@CornMine There aren’t many inside jokes that you’d be able to understand without knowing the student life and culture at Cornell. I could describe some of the cultural things if you’d like.

@AyeAyeron10 No, but I also applied RD.

@IndoorCloud25 Thank you very much! I’m no longer stressing out :).

@AyeAyeron10
My brother also applied RD and got accepted without sending in 1st quarter grades. I’m * pretty * sure that they do not ask for them (unless they are on the cusp of admitting you idk). I just sent them by email and they said thanks for the update, can’t hurt if you did well first quarter. You might want to send yours right now I sent mine last week and heard back within a few hours.

I thought we only needed to send in mid-year grades. We need to send in first quarter?

Sorry I misspoke earlier. I only sent mid-year and final grades. If you apply RD you send in mid-year grades and final grades. I think some ED applicants are asked for Q1 grades, but not all. I’m not well versed in this topic mostly because my GC took care of it for me, so I advise you to see your GC to talk about that.

Thanks for expelling the curves! About Spring admission, if we’re given that option wouldn’t this mean that we graduate one semester later than everyone or is there a way to catch up to everyone?

To answer post #97, the same course, like probability and statistics, offered in CAS, AEM and Hotel can be taught differently, not because quality of students, but more specifically to what’s relevant to that school. The course would be more theoretical in CAS with a lot more proofs, whereas in AEM and Hotel would be more on how to apply it. My kid was a math major at CAS and TA at AEM, and she said the approach was different.

@CCSenioritis I think for spring admission people will probably attend a community college or another university to take classes to keep up. Alternatively some will travel or do volunteer service. Taking classes will probably help in graduating on time, but otherwise you would graduate 1 semester later. You can find lots of info on this through the admissions website.

@Leicisbest @oldfort is right. Similar classes like stats, calc, finance, etc. that are offered through different colleges are taught differently or are used in different ways. I think for Bio and Society since the major is run under one department, the curriculum is pretty much standardized meaning the STS department has a list of classes needed for the major, which is the same for CAS and CALS students. Essentially, there’s no difference in the curriculum.

If I have a friend who has been also accepted can I get him as my roomate

@ibandcollege When the housing application comes out in the spring, you’ll be able to fill out all of your habits and room preferences. With the room preferences, there will be a spot for you to request a roommate. The way to do this is exchange NetIDs with each other after the university has issued one and put them into the roommate request page.

I have a financial aid related question. I received my acceptance letter to Cornell today. Does anyone know when/how I will be able to view my financial aid offer? Also, is this offer subject to change before I start this fall? I received an early estimate back in September, will my offer be any different from this one? Thanks for your time!

@cornellian7 Your financial aid won’t be made available to you for at least another week or so. I really don’t remember how long after admissions they released my package, not that it mattered to me to start out with. Your financial aid can be viewed on StudentCenter, which you should have access to when you’re issued a NetID. In terms of your package, it will probably not be the same as the estimate made in September because the Office of Financial Aid received the full details of your family’s finances when you applied. This gives them a much better understanding of what you need compared to an estimate, assuming they didn’t look all of that over in-depth when you talked to them in September.

If I indicate on my application that I would like to be considered for the Spring term of 2017, does that mean that they will not consider me for admittance for the fall term of 2016?

@KINGxOFxSPADES I think it either means that, or they’ll consider you for both. Frankly, I don’t remember that part of the application.

Do you know how my family owning a business might affect my FA package (if I’m accepted)? I’ve heard the net price calculators aren’t that accurate when it comes to businesses.
