@Chrysanthemum14 yes, the NPCs that you run if you own a business do not give an accurate picture of what your package will be. We own a business and it was not easy to estimate what our aid would be.
Yeah NPC in general is not the most accurate. Usually college advisors can help with that especially if they deal specifically with the finances. My parents had one and they were able to give a much better estimate than NPC.
@TiggyB62 In comparison to your NPC price how was the package that your son/daughter actually got? Higher or lower?
Our FA package was actually higher than we expected, so that was a nice surprise. But I always overestimate when I do NPCs just to be on the conservative side.
@takudan how is the biology and society major? i was planning on applying as one, but i’m not really sure how to talk about my interest in it in my essay
I’m really interested in sociology but I don’t want to major/double major in it if I am accepted. Since there is no minor for sociology is it possible to just take a bunch of classes for it?
@Chrysanthemum14 Yeah you can certainly use elective spots towards sociology classes if you don’t need them for required classes in your major. Alternatively, you can declare a minor in Development Sociology, which seems close to normal sociology, but definitely compare the classes between the SOC major and DSOC minor.
@IndoorCloud25 Did you order one of the free “Cornell Class of 20XX” shirts after you were admitted? If so, how long does it take for the shirt to arrive at one’s front door?
@ArthurDent42 Of course I did! It probably took two weeks or so to arrive. In my opinion, I like the 2020 shirts more than the 2019 shirts.
@IndoorCloud25 Did you ever get an email confirming that you had requested a shirt? I never did…so I thought there was an issue so I did it 2 more times…perhaps I ordered 3 shirts on accident…
@ArthurDent42 I did the same as you, but they’ll only send one. They also don’t send any tracking info on the shirt
Which is the best hotel to stay at in Ithaca??
@ibandcollege The Statler is nice and right on campus if you can afford it or even book a room. Otherwise most hotels in downtown Ithaca will serve their purpose for far less money.
@IndoorCloud25 I would just like to express my appreciation for what you are doing. Its been of a lot of help.
@ibandcollege It’s awesome to hear that! Just trying to be as helpful as possible through this whirlwind of time
@ibandcollege hotel rooms book VERY FAST so make early reservations. There are two colleges in Ithaca so hotel rooms are at a premium. Statler is well worth it, but it books up very fast and is quite expensive. At least $400 a night on premium weekends.
@IndoorCloud25 Just one more thing… I am an AEM major but wish to also pursue a minor in engineering. What is exactly the process involved???
@ibandcollege First thing you should do is meet with your advisor when you get on campus to discuss minoring within the engineering college because some minors have restrictions on what majors are allowed to declare. I think most are open to all undergrads. The next thing you should do is check out the current handbook to find a potential minor you like and the requirements for that minor. This is where things start to get a little more difficult because a lot of minors require upper-level engineering classes that have lower-level prerequisites, which may require completion of the engineering common curriculum. This is difficult to do since there’s a lot of courses to take that don’t overlap with AEM requirements. However, this shouldn’t dissuade you from pursuing this because there are some minors like Engineering Management or Engineering Statistics that could potentially be done as an AEM major.
@IndoorCloud25 Thanks a lot!!! Just curious. If I have a 42 predicted in IB what is the minimum I can get. I am trying my best to get the best results. Still I wish I knew.
You will not know your IB scores until after admission decisions, therefore your scores will not have impact on the decision. Your admittance is not contingent on your final IB scores, unlike UK colleges.
