2020 Columbia Combined Plan Admissions / Discussions

Hi

I believe they would count your summer course into overall gpa. That’s what I heard from my friend.

They replied back to my email and said they don’t consider summer courses in the overall GPA

Did they explain why you are on the waitlist?

@StJohnny They did not take into account my summer courses in my overall gpa which made it lower than the cutoff. I just have to really try this semster to make it happen!

@kerrblousky did you apply from an affiliate school for the combined plan program? And also, where does it say that summer courses aren’t counted towards the overall gpa?

but I believe in their agreement, they mentioned that the overall GPA inclusive of all the courses which you earned credit for.

@StJohnny I also applied for EE, so maybe competitive nature? One person that got in was BBMB?

It can’t be competitive. It’s guaranteed. I noticed, however, Columbia changed its conditions every year so it’s critical you follow the curriculum that’s based on your college entering year. This is all water under the bridge. I hope you have Plan B and Plan C. My D’s SLAC is also an affiliated college with WashU’s engineering. They have a guaranteed program with a lower GPA than Columbia’s. My D’s final backstop is continuing with her current college. But this had to have been planned in advance so she could complete a major in 4 years. I hope you had a backup plan all along - Plan A, Plan B, Plan C… To give 3 years of your college life only to be waitlisted has to be crushing.

For any international students who are planning to apply for combined plan program, I would suggest not to expect any financial aid from Columbia and should plan to pay full amount.

I have been accepted but they do not offer any aid even after multiple requests to reconsider the financial aid. They said the financial aid is limited but I think what they are implying is that international students are required to pay full amount. So far, I haven’t heard of any international students getting some aid from Columbia.

For those waitlisted, don’t lose hope yet. There are people who cannot go to Columbia due to financial reasons so I really hope you guys will be accepted and could go to Columbia.

I just do not want to give false hope about international financial aid for combined plan. Truth be told, I have wasted some valuable time preparing for the school that I hope to attend but which I could not attend due to financial situation. I admit that the requirements for combined plan are quite a lot so I am hoping that international students who are not in good financial standing invest their time and energy wisely.

They absolutely do, but they have decided not to take my summer courses. I just have to try to get my gpa up this semester! Wish me luck!

@kerrblousky

Yes, I think they said that they take overall GPA inclusive of all the courses. Are you from affiliated school? If so, have you reached out to Liaison? I heard as long as the liaison agree with the coursework, Columbia will accept it.

Best of Luck! Yes, you will need to get high GPA this semester to get in.

I am from an affiliate school, but my liason doesn’t seem like he wants to help. So for now I am on my own

I know your feeling. I hope you could get in!

Here is what I heard from my advisor, as long as the course shown in your home institution transcript, Columbia should accept them. But are those summer courses for pre-engineering courses? If so, then Columbia would be strict when reviewing those.

Hi do you mind sharing ur stats? I’m planning to pursue that path I have a similar background to yours (maybe except intended major?) would love to get some advice from someone that’s been through the process
