First, I applied comp sci as my first major and electrical engineering as my second. If I’m waitlisted, how do I know which major I wast waitlisted for? I applied EA and was deferred in the first round.
Second, does UIUC actually take students off the waitlist? Is there any reason to not accept a spot on the waitlist?
My daughter is also waited for CS. So I called UIUC admissions counselor, who mentioned that there are 300-400 applicants on the CS wait list. Although an applicant on the wait list can get accepted, considering the huge number of applicants on the wait list, there isn’t any realistic chance of being accepted. Also, wait list isn’t ranked. So, there is no way of knowing how far down the line you are. That said, I don’t see any down side of declining the wait list offer. Best to decline the wait list offer and move on.
Based on the posts I have seen on this board, it appears that UIUC doesn’t consider your second choice, if your first choice is CS. Best to call UIUC admissions and ask them.
Check UIUC on big future in the college board site. Under the applying tab, there are stats regarding the number of applicants, number of acceptances, number of people offered wait list, number of people accepted from wait list, etc. from last year.
Last year, 0 people were accepted from the wait list.
@rolltide95 UIUC would consider a second choice if the student listed one. I know some kids who only put XYZ major and didn’t want to be considered for anything else including DGS. Maybe they were trying to game the system or thought they were that competitive. These kids were surprised when they got denied. They were applying to majors that were VERY competitive.
