2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

Somebody send help. I literally just checked PSU’s employee calendar to see what days are holidays this week. So that I can plan my Obsessive Portal Checking (OPC) schedule.

They are off Thursday. Some can take off Friday.

And not to worry. I am the only one in my house concerned about any of this. S19 and Mr. InfiniteWaves are all “We’ll know when we know!” Clearly, S19 is his father’s son.

@InfiniteWaves, I feel your pain. Also, thanks for the good work finding out whether admissions is working this week! You have taken OPC to new a new level. And saved me the effort. This is our third time in the college admissions game, but our first time with a “rolling admissions” situation. The other two schools our son applied to with RA sent him offers within 2-3 weeks. I’m baffled that we haven’t heard from PSU yet, especially after seeing other kids with similar profiles (gender, race, extracurriculars) but with lower numbers (gpa, rank, test scores) already admitted to the program he applied to at least one month before they did. I don’t get it. It’s beginning to leave a bad taste tbh. Not impressed.

First choice campus UP, hoping the fact that both my parents are almuni will help my chances lmao. Applied undecided.

Your odds of branch campus are high. Start thinking: If you get into your other choices and branch campus, which would you choose?

To those checking this thread looking for a pattern for decisions
remember that early action answers include “deferred to regular decision”

So by December 24 a “decision” could still mean by January 31 for actual decision

A post earlier referred to an actual admissions rep saying early action was going to be the kids with higher stats since they are in demand

Others deferred to regular decision

The postings here at least seem to indicate same

I know this thread is for decisions only, but I think this reminder pertains to all those checking this thread to find a pattern

As we wait

Seems that early action answers include “deferred to regular decision”

A post earlier in the decisions thread I think referred to an actual admissions rep saying early action was going to be the kids with higher stats since they are in demand

The posts of kids accepted seem to be high stats

I guess penn state wanted to include early action this year to grab highest stat kids early?

So more of them choose psu

So we others who have acceptable stats may have to be patient until January after all

I’m just speculating but so far the accepted posts are kids with high stats or special circumstances like the student in the new photography major who is a national award winner

Those stats were posted in decisions to encourage those of us with good stats but not the highest

But maybe that student was accepted based on the photography awards

@ziveli513 there’s still time to see whether the highest stats statement is true, but what I’ve observed here is that students with lower stats than my student and who applied relatively recently have been admitted to the program he applied to two month ago (and still hasn’t heard anything).

@txmom2016. Ugh. That’s so frustrating!
Ohio state main campus, as big as penn state university park reviewed and accepted my d in 8 weeks
12 weeks and counting under review at penn state main

So people who come here and say oh penn state had soooo

Soooo many applications might be wrong that it’s the reason why some take so long

And this time early action Is new. So all may be different

Thank you Mods for creating this thread… glad to see @jlhpsu has your ear!

Jjust to clarify, while we await acceptance decision and are in this thread, we are free to post tell tale patterns and or possible clues to PSU decision release info here, correct?

This thread is to post stats and question chances, discuss puzzlement and frustrations, share discoveries, take a deep breath together, etc.

You can post anything you want here so long as it is Penn State related (and complies with ToS). That said, I am in the camp that there are no “possible clues;” the official announcement is your first and best clue. But it seems to make people happy to try to read the tea leaves. :):

It was my daughter that got accepted to the new photography program. I’m guessing there were alot of factors for her acceptance, one of them I’m guessing is it’s a new degree and also her awards, parents and her grand parents are alums (but not sure this had much pull?). We also gave her portfolio to numerous people on campus. Not sure how it all happened, but we are thrilled none the less! I’m pulling for all of you though, I’ve had many sleepless nights wondering and hoping for her. Good luck!

SAT: 1290
GPA: 4.0 uw/4.1w (took every ap class my hs offers)
Rank: 10/90
State Residency: PA
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Applied: late September
College: Smeal (marketing)

So tired of waiting! But not going to be too surprised if I get deferred from first round of decisions. Do you think I have a good chance for UP for fall? Good luck to all!

Just an update…spoke to ADMISSIONS REPRESENTATIVE not a student…Early Decision made applicants come in ONE MONTH EARLY this year. the Lion share of acceptances thus far are for BRANCH campuses.
Yes, some are early early but as of now, those priority date applicants will be hearing first two weeks in December as they are off the 3rd week. People are calling after misreading their letters stating they thought they got UP, but it’s branch campuses. Not to worry, but read your acceptances twice.
