hi, just checked a screenshot of the waitlist decision letter that i took in march 13 – the wording in the old decision letter is exactly the same (it also said spring, so idt they changed anything). i think they were referring to spring/summer 2020 (which is long past by now). the only difference in the portal is that they took out the bit where we could submit additional materials.
its honestly a bit ridiculous that they haven’t updated us at all since that decision letter in March, but I guess we’ll just wait and see :’)
http://prntscr.com/ucanzg This is what it said. In the summer I remember the wording saying that if there was space in the fall they would add any student. So now it is just saying in Spring. Either I am being delusional or I have no idea.
@vegetarianSpam @JBStillFlying I got the email to fill out FAFSA 2020-21 school year and my portal was updated to reflect that on 09/04/20 I sent a FAFSA ws even though I didnt touch anything ???
@snurpydog @vegatarianSpam you should contact them to see what is going on.
Maybe they’re planning on admitting you two and asking for FA information on that account. Good luck!
tbh i think its just a glitch, they called me a prospective student and yada yada, at first i read it and i thought someone was using my email address to apply to uchicago lol, just wondering if anyone else’s portal in financial aid checklist updated to reflect it though?
Glitches are possible and have even happened. A couple years ago, the Common Ap confused my son with another student of similar name who was applying to many of the same schools. And then on his state flagship portal someone else’s ACT showed up! So glitches happen. It’s possible that someone with a similar name ended up with their FAFSA loaded onto your portal. UChicago could solve this problem easily by just closing out the portals of the w/l group but for some reason they have opted not to do that. Frustrating. You might give them a call and find out what happened. Use that to ask when will you get a simple up or down vote.
Hello, I also got that financial aid email. I was completely weirded out, and unsure whether I needed to turn in something else. I thought it was a glitch too, but I will ask
Hello again, I got an email saying that it was an error based on my earlier submissions. Also my AO didn’t give any information other than “we hope to make a final decision soon.”
thanks for the update!! did your portal change to reflect that a financial aid ws was turned in as well? That’s my guess as to why it sent the email…@sariseo
@snurpydog yes, my portal now says the financial aid ws was received earlier this month instead of February.
I feel so exhausted waiting this long. It would be nice if they could give us a date on when they’ll release their final decisions.
The semester starts in two weeks, so perhaps we’re being considered for the class of 2025?
With the usual caveat that this is an educated guess and not inside information:
You are not being considered for the class of '24. Orientation for the first year class has already begun. Also, as stated upthread, the number of enrollments in Hum strongly indicates that the first year class is significantly over-subscribed. Your w/l decision (for class of '25) might be held up by continuing last-minute gap year decisions. Apparently, those are still going on and even one or two more will impact the Z list… Move-in starts next week, but they still might still see additional gappers all the way up to 9/25, which is the due date for the Autumn quarter bill.
So I guess it’s the end of the line for those of us who can only join this year.
I have to say this is really disappointing on the part of UChicago admissions. No reason to leave people hanging so long.
Does anyone actually know when we should expect to hear back? It’s the 20th of September???
Even if they were to accept some of us, both UChicago and other colleges have already begun, so how would that even work?
UChicago starts next week—I agree with comments above: I think the reason why we’re still being held is that there is a chance for admission next year.
We already skipped orientation and math placement tests, so I can’t see how they’d be able to adjust anyone. They should at least update those of us who didn’t select the option to join the class of 2025. I have already taken a gap year, and I don’t want to wait another year. Why are they holding off decisions for people like me?
