@raspberryemily Don’t worry about the opportunities at your smaller uni. Just keep your GPA up, do well on the MCAT and make good relationships with the professors! In fact, you’ll probably have more opportunities at your smaller uni. Since it’s smaller, you can form close relationships with the professors and it can lead to research opportunities. Also UChicago is known for grade deflation which can hurt your GPA and thus your chances at med school. You’ll do amazing at the college you selected!
@iaminstudentdebt If you end up at K-State it will be ok! My son just finished 3 years of undergrad there, just moved into an apartment and is ready to start 4 more years of vet school there! He loves it, felt intellectually challenged, had great study abroad opportunities, excellent Honors classes and still had fun! This is from a big city OOS kid who I NEVER would have thought would be in college in Kansas! Good luck!
This whole wait is ridiculous
Asked my AO and again got a very general respond saying they will make the final decision soon(which is exactly the same as the respond I got back in late May). By soon, you mean months?
I dont mean to sound cynical while saying this, this is coming from a practical and logical stand point, but if you’ve already committed to another school and are locked into attending this school at this point in time, I suggest you remove yourself from the waitlist in order to speed up the process and improve the chances of other applicants getting in. I will be removing myself tomorrow, August 14th, as this will be the final day to submit tuition payments for my currently registered school. I wish the best for all of you and commend you are your achievements so far but I believe those who can be removed from the waitlist at this time do so.
Is there any specific deadline that they need to notify us by?
Through the grapevine, I’m hearing that first years are being given till 8/28 to make a final decision on whether they will be on campus or not. But, tbh, I’d be shocked if anyone else gets pulled for this year. The head count in the required Hum sequence is significantly higher than what it’s been the past few years, suggesting major over-subscription, and has been that way for a few weeks now. It’s possible that they are holding open the hope of getting some additional last minute gappers. That impacts the Z-list, clearly. All this is just speculation of course (except for the headcount - that’s genuine). But it may help explain the hold-up for you guys.
Anyone got notification in the last week?
I still haven’t received anything since March
Well, its best to live and work where you are now. I actually checked my admission portal earlier and they basically took everything out and worded it where we would hear if there were any openings in Spring. But that’s it. Just move on from this point I guess… I know quite sad
^ @dapperduong - By “openings in Spring” do they mean that your application will be rolling over to the next application cycle (class of '25)? Or that you might be invited to enroll later this academic year, just not in the fall? That’s confusing wording as you have posted it.
That’s odd, I just checked my admission portal and nothing has changed. Perhaps that means that they’re not considering my application anymore?
I find it odd for them to say “…any openings in Spring…” In my view, they shouldn’t make ambiguous statements for students who are hanging on a very thin string of hope. I am sure the AOs and others in the office understand that any ambiguous messages will cause more pain and anguish to hopeful students.
Sorry for the wording, it was just what I saw lol. I believe it is the Spring Semester of 2021 but I still am not sure due to the ambiguity.
Does UChicago ever start a first year not in autumn quarter? I think that would cause an issue with the Hum core sequence.
They don’t start first years in the winter or spring anymore, is my understanding. Back in the “olden” days you could start any of the four quarters, but that’s not been in practice for at least a couple decades and certainly not since they revised the Core 20 years ago. However, we are possibly in a new age of college admissions now, so the recent past may no longer predict future action. Also, the “cliff” is fast approaching with a huge drop in warm bodies of college age. If UC changes its admissions practices to allow multi-year waitlisting for those planning to gap anyway . . . I wouldn’t be the least surprised.
whattt where are y’all seeing the spring openings part lol my portal looks like how it did in March & it shows the decision letter and the normal main page w fin aid and what not
@carolineemendoza its in the old decision letter. they just changed it without notifying us
Anyone else get a Financial Aid email out of the blue? I checked my portal and nothing has changed, yet the office of Financial Aid wants me to fill out another FAFSA and worksheet.
@vegatarianSpam - for the 2020-21 academic year or for 2021-22?
