Hey,
On the March 2008 Sat, I scored a
700 Writing (9 Essay, 69 MC)
700 Reading
740 Math
Total 2140.

However, I am applying to HYPMS so I would really like a 2300 to boost my application. In the next week or so, I have around 5 days off (no school) until the test. I need a boost of about 160 points in order to get the 2300. I hope to improve my writing from a 700 to a 800, and to improve my reading from a 700 to a 760. That would put me at 1500/1600 and 2300/2400.

I am willing to do anything over these next few days to pull of my goal. Is there any advice as to what I should do to maximize my score? Also, how many questions should I aim to miss in reading for a 760? And how should I improve so I get 0 wrong on writing? I am using Rocket Review and Grammatix at the time being, both of which are really effective. Does anyone have other ways on as to how I can improve?

I am willing to do anything, including staying up late and waking up early, just to pull this off. Can anyone also suggest what I should do over this weekend to take full advantage of my time and what I should do next week on the two days I am going to be at home. Thanks for your help, off to give a Practice test!

I forgot how many questions you could miss for a reading 760. Check in the College Board practice test (they have the score range thing)

Actually, DON'T stay up late and wake up early. Well, wake up early, but DON'T stay up late. Trust me. A lack of sleep just so soon before the test will decrease your chances of a >2300, trust me XD

5 days? Haha, try hard!

Grammar's really easy to master. I suggest going back over all your grammar backs from like, middle school, or something...And then! (This part is REALLY important but sort of silly) Go look up all the English:
1. Idioms
2. Verb tenses (simple past, past, imperfect past, simple future, conditionals, if-clauses, etc. etc. etc.)
3. That nitty-gritty stuff and "Thomas and me" or "him and Marie"

Really, writing's all just practice.

I'm sorry I can't tell you anything about reading. I took more than just 5 days to raise my score ><

Thanks Ivychan,
Yea I understand that reading takes more than 5 days; I've been doing it since the summer. As for writing, you say I should practice as a way to get closest to the 800?

I took a practice test(only reading and writing sections) and got a:
CR- 8x - 640-720
WR- 6x - 700-800

Clearly, I have some progress to make to get to my goal. I am gonna review what I did wrong and go over vocab in order to fix my errors. And also the same things for writing. I really need this 2300...

Anyone have a good estimate as to how many I can miss and get a:
760 CR
800 W (w/11-12 essay)
Also, whats good essay practice? What should I do, anyone have a good format/structure that assures a high score (11-12)?

760 CR has to be like 3-4 wrong. WAs that 6 wrong for Writing? Unless that's a 11-12 essay, I don't think 6 wrong on the MC can merit a 700-800 and if it is an 11-12 essay, then it would be a very low 700.

800 W you can miss 0 and have, depending on the curve, an 800 with a 9 essay. I think if you miss like 2 MC on the writing, but get a 11-12 essay an 800 might be plausible depending on the curve.

K, so two wrong in writing and 3-4 wrong in reading. Any advice on what I should do over the next few days in order to improve? I missed 6 in writing, but a few were dumb mistakes. Gonna cut down on those...

I am planning on taking a sat everyday for the next week (cept before the sat that is) and going over it. To compliment that, I plan on studying vocab and writing essays, along with review material. Then on Wednesday, I plan on incorporating math into my studying as well, and then I will hope for the best.

Anyone have any better advice, some specifics as to what I should do this weekend?

After review the test, I did a lot of stupid stuff. The things I plan on improving for tomorrows test are:
-Line ref questions, read the line before
-improve vocab (2 questions wrong)
-Watch verb Tense
-Have vs has
-Hard writing Questions
-Read Answer choices carefully
-Improve short passages

I get messed up on short passages for some reason. Anyone have any advice on those? And what about the last writing questions 27-30 that are really hard. Any advice for that? Finally, what should I do to improve this weekend.

You really can't improve vocab this close to the test. Actual vocab studying should be done with months to prepare. The amount of time you spend studying vocab these next couple days would be a lot of wasted time that could have been spent studying writing grammar or math basics. The best way to study vocab imo is just to read with a dictionary and a notebook next to you (come to a word you dont know? Look it up and write it and its definition in the notebook. Review the notebook periodically and draw pictures if it will help you).

@LLpictch: About the vocab, I have already done a ton of words for the march test, but they have slipped away. ATM, I am trying to relearn them, which isn't too bad. Anyway, taking another test today, lets see how that goes.

On my latest Practice test I got a:
CR - 5x - 670-770
WR - 7x - 680 - 800

Anyone have any predictions as to what those scores really would be?

I nearly made my goal of 4 wrong on CR, but I did a little worse on writing. It's those careless mistakes, I keep overlooking the right answer. Any advice as to what I should do to fix that problem?

Is that the blue book and by X you mean wrong right? 7 wrong and 5 wrong?

The CR should be around the low 700 with 5 wrong.
The writing, I think the best you could get with 7 wrong is a high 600 and that's with a 10 essay. If you wrote a 11-12 essay it would be like a super low 700 (710ish).
