DD was the one who had the 2 wisdom teeth out. Just called to report that hundreds of Tulane students are ill with a nasty 24 hour stomach virus. Her last final is tomorrow but she is too ill to study. School sent out an email with a link to info. about the problem. Here it is in case anyone wants to check it out. I hope all your DS's and DD's are well!!!

My d claims the illness is related to something going on at Bruff and says she and everyone else she knows have eaten at LBC for the past several days. And just to add to the fun, she has mono!

S2 got home last night and reported that many kids were upchucking in the bushes on their way to exams. What a crummy way to end the semester. Good news is that it doesn’t seem to be lasting for much more than 24 hrs. S2 actually was one of the first - had it about 10 days ago.

Rumor was it was related to the egg salad in Bruff. That was the report last weekend so it would seem that this is a virus of some sort. If it was indeed a food poisoning issue, that would have been rectified by now and kids would not still be getting sick. Norovirus has been reported in the schools so it is time to start washing those hands and using hand sanitizer!

Both my daughter and her roommate were sick. The roommate was up all night last Tuesday night vomiting. Late Thursday afternoon, my daughter started feeling sick. Severe vomiting and diarrhea. By 10 p.m. she was at the emergency room with an IV. Someone found her laying in the bathroom floor and called TEMS. Very scary for her. And scary for me since I’m eight hours away. She said there was discussion in the ambulance about which hospital to take her to because they had been taking so many Tulane students to the hospital. As soon as she had meds and one bag of fluid, I could tell a difference in how she felt - even over the phone. She had a second bag of fluid and got back to the dorm about 2 a.m. She was very weak for a couple of days. She missed her Friday final but was able to take her Saturday final. She made up the Friday final on Monday and is home now and fine. This was a really, really nasty bug. It hit fast and it hit hard. She said the bathrooms smelled like vomit because so many people had been sick. It is my opinion that the school has downplayed the severity and the number of people who were ill. I don’t believe, however, that this was food related. The hospital diagnosed it as a virus. And I don’t think a food related illness would have gone on for so long. And, my daughter doesn’t eat eggs.

My daughter also had the virus on Tuesday night. TEMS went to check on her Wednesday morning and it was decided that she would go the the Health Center versus the hospital. She was too weak and shaky to walk, so the nurse manager from the Health Center actually went to daughter’s dorm, in her own vehicle, to get her. Once there, daughter said the staff was awesome and she was able to leave a few hours later. We are so thankful to the TEMS staff and the Health Center staff. Daughter has recuperated and flew home last night!

Insult to injury; s2 was deferred this week and his brother was kind enough to bring this virus home … We’ll spare the Green Wave jokes. And We’re definitely hoping it’s only 24 hour, just like the thread title says!
