The problem with my schedule is that I’m also taking 3 IB Higher levels, which are two year courses, so I won’t be able to break 20 :(

That 28 test person could have been a few years ago. So he could have taken a few that are no longer offered. That could let them have taken Comp Sci A and AB, and maybe the Latin or French Literature tests as well as the still-there language tests.

10 ap’s for me, at most. Most likely, only 9.

My school didn’t allow any ap’s for freshmen/sophmores (ap human and wh were added this year)

In 2006, someone took 30 AP Exams!

<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board;

If I am lucky, I will finish off with something around 20

Is this the norm for people at all of your schools? Taking 20 tests by the end of HS? I’ll have taken 8 and completely maximized by schedule. This is typical for all advanced students. What’s the point in self-studying for World History or Human Geography or Music Theory? Do you really need credit for those. How do you even have time? Sorry about all the questions; I just genuinely would like to know!

I love how CB puts it “one student had amassed 30 exams.”
Well, I think I’ll be taking the most AP tests by far at my school. I self-study other subjects because I am interested in them(which is why I have qualms about self-studying Art History) and also in the hope that my self-study skills will impress colleges(since I don’t have that many extracirriculars, and my greatest extracirricular achievement may be making AIME, which is probably not that impressive to schools like MIT). As for the time, I use weekends and breaks to do major studying, while I do easier homework over the week.

^ stand corrected, AIME looks very impressive for MIT!!
in fact its on their application, so if you have a score thats already a big big plus =)

Yeah, but I totally failed on the AIME and thus did not get into USAMO…I think I can get into it next year, but it will be too late by then. 10,000 people make AIME, maybe 3,000 of them are Juniors right now. I will likely have to compete with most of them for schools like MIT. By ensemble of AP tests is an effort to make me look somewhat “well-rounded” by demonstrating competence in many different subjects.

Well speaking for someone who participates in ECs, I hope that makes up for not taking 20 APs. It would be impossible to have the time to take 12 on my own and do decently in addition to my graded schoolwork and EC involvement.

I asked my counselor if I could self-study AP Physics and she told me no :(

^ why does she get to decide what you can self-study for?

Ya, that’s kind of ridiculous. Just don’t get academic credit for the class, just prepare for the exam

You don’t have to talk to the counselor… it’s SELF studying after all…

For us, the main thing is, our district has pretty high requirements for graduation, so we’re limited on the number of AP classes we can take. (max about 20)

I mean, I could self-study, but it’s still a bit harder than actually taking a year of the class.

And even if you do self-study, why would you take AP Music Theory if you’re not going to be a musician? I mean you would’nt use the credit and it wouldn’t look that impressive would it?

Or is it just the number of tests you take look impressive?

^Who are you talking to with regards to music theory?

Taking at least 20 AP exams costs $ 1740. LOLL

^At my school, we get our money back if we pass the test.

^I wish we got that deal…

lol, getting your money back just by getting a 3… I bet i wouldn’t have to pay then.

@ garfieldliker

Um… i was talking to everyone who is taking music theory but not interested in it at all.

I’d try to pass every single AP exam for ****s and giggles if we had that deal.

^It’s sad that the people at my HS still don’t care enough to even try to pass the tests.
