29 on the ACT?

hey there, how likely is it that ill get into vanderbilt as an international with a 29 on the act, 3.9 gpa, good amount of aps, and good ecs?

Well, heres the deal…
If you look over the avg. ACT scores of the middle range from this year applying to Vandy at 31-33 your chances are not very good. However, there were a few 29 ACTs that did get in. The best thing for you to do though is go back to the thread of “Vanderbilt Admit Decision 2013”… most of those admitted and those who were not gave their stats on this link to let others out there know just how tough it was for students to get in this year because this was the peak year for the baby boomers kids entering college. MANY very qualified students were not only nor admitted they were not even waitlisted. Is your 3.9 weighted or not? and you EC’s are also important at Vandy, what sets you apart from the group.
Good luck

I got waitlisted with a 33 on my ACT so…you decide…

to the above posted, in no way I am trying to offend you, but getting waitlisted with a 33 ACT proves that the committee is looking at other parts of the application with equally if not more weight than test scores. Based purely on test scores, you would have been admitted no question as you clearly fall in the upper echelon of the admitted student stats

i got waitlisted with a 34

so, i would definitely take it again and at least get into the 30s

not to say that that is the only thing they look at!

I’d say if you’re applying next year, you’ll have a bunch more chances to take the ACT, so why not??? You’ll probably improve your score, which should help a lot.

I was waitlisted with a 32.

I was accepted with a 30. Obviously if you are strong in other ways or a good fit for what they’re looking for you have more of a chance.

But Dani, didn’t you apply Early Decision?

I was also waitlisted with a 32.

I just got in with a 29… but I was a transfer with a 4.00 GPA.

got in with a 31… I believe my essays made my app. though

as a general rule, if you are below the mean, you had better bolster your app with a hook. This year, there were way too many non-hooked applicants denied with a 30-31 and wait-listed with a 32+.

i think it is more demanding for an international student when it comes down to a stats war. as much statistics are just about numbers and more numbers, they help the office determine compare against the pool from your country, and the international pool.

then also, if you applying FA, it’s got to be at the least, in a rather competitive range. i got a 1470/2210 on my sats, and was accepted with a rather generous grant.

Well, I got admitted to Vanderbilt this year, and I had a very similar looking application…top 10% of my graduating class, 29 ACT composite, around your GPA, lots and lots of extra curricular activities, good amount of APs, etc, I am from DC, and Caucasian. So I would say you definitely have a chance to be admitted, just keep your spirits high, try to write the best essays you can, stay involved and get good grades your senior year, and you definitely have a chance! good luck! =]

my son had 30 ACT Composite, GPA 3.71 unwt and 3.91 wt,but he isn’t in top 10% ( in Top 13% ). We apply Vanderbilt for second ED. Do you think he has any chance to get in?
