2nd undergrad-degree

Yes,

@C.K soā€¦you have clarified that you intend to finish one bachelors and then try to get anotherā€¦.presumably at one of the three elite schools you listed.

Pleaseā€¦I strongly urge you to reconsider doing this. Read what @blossom wrote again. Head over to your career center and have some conversations with them about possible jobs.

I will say againā€¦given what you posted hereā€¦that your grades plummeted to D and C grades (reason is not relevant), you need to GET.A.JOB and do well at that job. You need to show that you can achieve well. You need to put some years of distance between your current lackluster grades and any further college pursuits. You will have better success with something very positive on your current resume than what you have now.

As noted, there very well could be some certificates you could obtain to get you closer to what you actually think you want to do job wise.

My strong opinionā€¦a second bachelors is a waste of your time and moneyā€¦and I canā€™t really figure out why you think this is a good move. Get a job, do wellā€¦and apply for an advanced degree down the road if you feel you need it. A second bachelorsā€¦in my opinion, donā€™t.

Who suggested to you that a second bachelors is what you should do? Or did you think this up on your own! What possible benefit do you think a second bachelors will give you?

I donā€™t understand why you think you need a second bachelorā€™s after getting this degree at UTD. You say these are your career goals:

A second bachelorā€™s will not help you achieve any of these. Going into the workforce for a while could make sense, as does getting a masterā€™s degree in CS/AI/Robotics. You can work full time and take classes towards your masterā€™s concurrently as well.

How many more semesters/years do you have to complete your degree at UTD? Have you had any internships?

Are you currently making Satisfactory Scholastic Progress to stay in your major?

From the catalog, Academic Policies - Policies and Procedures - UT Dallas 2022 Undergraduate Catalog - The University of Texas at Dallas
ā€œ Academic Progress

A student is considered to be making satisfactory scholastic progress when he or she is carrying an approved schedule of classes, is not on probation, and has a GPA (grade point average) of at least 2.000 (C average) in the major and overall. Students who habitually drop a significant fraction of their schedule may lose the right to drop or may be dismissed from the University for failure to make adequate academic progress.ā€

WHO advised you to get a second bachelorā€™s degree?
Its needlessly expensive and will take a lot of time and will be basically useless toward your goal. Sorry to say that but thatā€™s what it looks like on paper.

It will not help you to become a professor in AI.
Getting multiple bachelorā€™s degrees will actually reflect poorly because you are not progressing upwardly but laterally changing schools with lack of real world work experience.

Professors have multiple degrees built upon upward movement. BS to MS to Ph.D.
Itā€™s not BS to BS to BS and lacking any work experience.

Everyone here is trying to help you to understand how things work in the US business and educational community. Eventually, you have to prove yourself by gaining work experience in your field. Lacking that, you will struggle. I hope you understand what everyone here is trying to tell you.
If you are seeking a prestigious school to add to your ā€œresumeā€, I think you are going to be REALLY disappointed. It doesnā€™t work that way.

At this point, some honesty and adulting on the OPā€™s part is in order.

People here donā€™t like to say impossible, but what you are proposing is possible in the same sense as having a winning lottery ticket blow into your hand when out for a walk. Sure, itā€™s possible, but planning for it is unwise.

Others are more polite than I am.

Your posts have a good element of fantasy to them. Olympic weightlifter? Fantasy. World-class musician? Probably fantasy. The idea that a T2 college in somputer science - one of which does not do this for anybody - will take you on as a student after your record at UTD? Fantasy.

Iā€™m even going to go further and call your humanoid robot goal fantasy. Nobody who is working on this sees themselves working on ā€œhumanoid robotsā€. They see themselves working on, e.g. better algorithms for bipedal balance or whatever. Just like nobody gets a job ā€œdesigning carsā€ - they work on seat belt attachment points, or engine mounts, or fuel injectorsā€¦

You need to put the fantasies aside, start adulting, and come up with a realistic plan. That plan is likely to be ā€œfinish your degreeā€, ā€œget a jobā€ and maybe after some time in the workforce, you can think about graduate school and beyond.

There are mighty few do-overs in adult life, and you are essentially asking for a do-over. You have demonstrated that you cannot handle upper division courses at UTD. That makes direct entry to graduate school impossible. That makes a second BS from a T2 program impossible (and one would need to change its policies anyway).

The only realistic path I see to your goals is to graduate and get a job. Iā€™m not the only one who has said this. After a few years experience, you will be better prepared for graduate school and you will hopefully have some positive accomplishments to offset the negative of your grades.

OP- there are other paths.

You could take next semester off- enroll in a coding academy-- interview for a few jobs. If any of them seem interesting, you can extend your leave of absence and work for a bit. If none of them seem interesting, head back to your college with the knowledge of what you DONā€™T want to be doing without a Bachelorā€™s degree.

Hugs to you. I know itā€™s frustrating to feel like youā€™ve hit a dead end- but you havenā€™t. Just an obstacle and you need to figure out how to go around it in the most efficient way possible.
