Hello,
I will be attending my local community college next fall. I chose the CC over a four year school to save money. My high school GPA ended up being 94ish and my SAT score was 1690.
My question to you all is whether it is possible for me to become a transfer student to CMU for Computer Science after receiving my AA at my community college. If so, what might increase my chances of acceptance? I plan to really focus on college from this point forward in my life and even quit my job to do so this fall. Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is possible, but almost as difficult as making it into Harvard. It is not impossible, just very rare. Here is all the information you will need to submit:

[Admission > Transfer Students](<a href=“Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University”>Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University)

The current rate for CMU transfer acceptance hovers around 7-8%, and that’s cumulative for the entire university, so I would imagine that the acceptance rate for CS students is lower since the program does not have a high attrition rate - CMU only admits transfers to fill empty spaces of kids who have transferred out of that program.

I was just admitted to the School of Computer Science as a transfer student this summer. I’ll be going there this fall. I’ve completed my Freshman year at a small two year private college. Not exactly the same thing as a community college, but similar. So it happens.

Lonesin, what stats did you have? It’s interesting to know because I am trying to transfer there as well.

I think that if you still can, retake the SATs and do some extra curricular stuff, not necessarily college clubs, could be personal projects. Get close to maybe a CS professor or at least one of the professors to get really good letters of recommendation.
Best of luck! :)
