3.0 to 3.3 (GPA) Parents Thread (2011 HS Graduation)

CIA - Thank you.

Yes, my D is around 3.10 to 3.20, I don’t know it’s weighted or unweighted.

How has your D’s grades been? A lot of B’s? A and B’s? B’s and C’s? C’s? Etc.

Mostly B’s and some C’s.

CIA - we visited Rochester two weeks ago. Love it! Will apply although this will be a high reach for her.

It’s probably unweighted in that case (assuming there are at least a couple A’s in there).

Rochester will probably be a high reach for me as well. Our GPA’s are very similar. Has she taken any standardized tests yet?

I got a 28.

Math- 25
Science- 25
English- 31
Reading- 31

Hopefully I can bring that up to a 30 in September.

ds got a 26! I really thought he’d be @21-22 and we’d be working hard to get here. English 25, Math 26, Reading 30, Science 24. We will keep him with tutor all summer to see if we can bump to 27 or 28 in an attempt to explain his erratic grades

Kathiep for the links…I looked at Mercyhurst and think we may visit when we go to Pitt.
YabeYabe-don’t think he minds urban setting as we live in one but DePaul’s housing seems lacking and not sure that would work. He could stay pretty close to home and make a club team but would like to see him expand his thinking first and not “settle” here because his girlfriend is a year younger. There are very good choices nearby, don’t get me wrong but I’d like to think he’d be choosing them from other options.

Good job CIA!

Great job to CIA. Unfotunately, our news wasn’t good this am. Her scores went down in everything by one point execept for English wihich went up by one. Guess we will be sitting in on the September ACT.

Hi, all; I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am to find this discussion thread. My son is heading for senior year with a 3.044 (uw), SAT of 1850, and, I think, some real uncertainty (verging on panic) about what he’s going to do after high school.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences here; it puts some of the other threads (5.0 GPAs, 2400 SATs, etc.) into perspective and makes me feel not so unsettled about the decisions that are coming up for S.

Welcome!

one of us… one of us… one of us…

Thanks, Shrinkrap!

What do you all think of George Mason for somebody in this range? Anyone know anyone who goes there or who is considering going there?

For those who are familiar with me, I’m in-state VA, 3.1 GPA and 28 ACT. Not so much looking for “chances”, but rather info about the school and whether it would be a fit for me or not.

mdcissp just visited today; posted on the Jewish Parents “B” thread…check it out…

I’m not “crazy” or anything…that’s from that movie “The Player”…

George Mason would be an excellent fit. We visited and my D really like the campus. They have amazing internships for all of their students with ttheir close proximity to DC. Very diverse campus, they are known for being one of the most diverse campuses in the US. They only guarantee four year housing if you live on campus freshman year, off campus housing is very expensive as it is located in Fairfax, VA always up there in the rankings as a very high priced area to live.

RCSQueen, I’m looking to major in political science/government so the location near D.C. is very attractive.

The thing giving me the most pause is the Gen. Ed requirements. They seem to have quite a few. Did this come up any on your tour?

CIA - Does your school has “Naviance” ? Maybe you can get more info from the students with similar GAP & scores like you.

Yes, my D already took all the tests, I think she’s done with that.

Unfortunately, my school does not have Naviance. It would be very beneficial to me if they did, but oh well…

CIA no that did not come up during the tour. There was another parent who asked the gen ed. requirments but the tour guides answer was that they are in line with other VA. public colleges/universities. Longwood could be an option for you, not sure about your major. They have onsite admissions if you have a 3.0 you can bring everything with you to the appointment and they will give you a decision on the spot.

CIA - Just curious what about the requirement give you pause. we toured also & it’s on our short list. Thanks
