3.1 cumulative GPA and hoping to go to grad school in Canada

Hi, I’m currently an undergrad student that’s attending a state university in the US. My citizenship is Canadian and I hope to apply to some schools in Canada for an MA. My current GPA is a 3.1 due to some poor choices I made where I would go back and forth on which major I thought would be right for me. Nevertheless, all my grades in my English classes are good (my gpa for that is around a 3.8) I’m just worried that my cumulative would ruin my chances since it is below what most universities expect.

Any advice is helpful.
(Also the list of schools I’m thinking of applying to are UOttawa, Mcgill, maybe Carleton, UBC. I don’t know if I can apply to anymore considering it does get expensive due to the application fees)

MA in what field? 3.8 in English helps if you’re an undergrad English major applying to English MA programs. If not, it is irrelevant.

I think that it is hard to guess graduate school admissions since most of us have very little experience with it. I have heard that McGill is hard to get into for graduate school, but I do not have any personal experience with this.

I will note that universities appeared to ignore my “out of major” classes in terms of graduate school admissions. In my case I was a math major, with very bad grades in one art class and one art history class which pulled my GPA down quite a bit. No one seemed to care about my art classes when applying to graduate schools in fields that were related to mathematics.

Sorry, should have clarified that I am hoping to pursue an MA in English Literature.
