3.6 GPA 34 ACT Chem Major

I have my own personal savings as well. So far the calculators for full-meet schools show them to be within my budget.

Do you have relatives in a town/city that would allow you to live with them?

@MYOS1634 I do not.

Does this mean I should only consider LA Tech and Howard?

How were you able to accumulate personal savings? How much do you have? more than $10k?

Are you forbidden from taking out any type of loans at all in undergraduate?

You are entitled to $5,500 from the federal government; if your EFC is very very low, you may get some money in pell grants. But even adding both won’t be sufficient to pay for college nowadays, unlike in the past where that + a part time job sufficed. :s
However, you can go for colleges that meet 100% need, and go for merit at universities that provide it.
If your mother makes less than 60K, you’re also eligible to apply to Berea - if admitted, you’d get an automatic full tuition scholarships (thanks to generous alumni and donors), and their gifts also mean that as long as you work for the college 20hours a week you get your room and board covered, too.

@MYOS1634 I ran the NPC for schools on the 568 Groups and all of the expected money I’m supposed to give them seems like it should be able to cover it. For example I did Notre Dame just now. After estimated Pell Grant+Aid, I have 8k left over. Wouldn’t the $5,500 loan+my parent’s 3k+saved money be able to pay for that?

My only fear is that if I go to med school then those loans will become $80k a year loans and I’ll leave medical school with $320k+$21k+interest in debt. I’ve also heard that the medical field is going to see pay cuts and what not which just seems to add more to my apprehension. I’m not going to the med field for the money, but I’d surely hope that my children would not have to worry about university funding the way I am.

You can choose a med school where they have a rural medicine program that pays back your loans (part or all of them) if you accept to work as a general physician in areas that have a shortage of them.

@MYOS1634 My main fear with that is I’ll get to med school and realize I want to do something specialized but then be unable to do so.

So what full meet schools should I be looking at?
