What I have any shot at UT-Austin?

No, I’m sorry. Almost 90% of their admits are in-state AND in the Top 10% of their high school, which is a little affirmative action trick. That doesn’t leave much room for the Top 15% of TX’s best high schools and OOS admits. You’d have to have an ACT of at least 32 in order to get in OOS.

SMU is way better than UT. It was a lot more worthy of my own personal time in pursuing, and if you’re anything like me, which judging from your posts you are, you would absolutely hate UT for its lack of hot chicks that only like preppy dudes. Austin is amazingly cool place, but the UT community looks down on people without mohawks and nose rings. They are perfectly at zen and in harmony with themselves and others, unless the other person is not perfectly at zen and in harmony with themselves and others.

What do you want to study?
Btw You don’t need 32 ACT to get in UT OOS. I had less and got in as an international. Write good essays, get good recs, and hope for the best.

^^^osucowboys

I wouldn’t have thought the student body at UT was that out there, but I guess in a place like Austin it really wouldn’t surprise me…

Could you just give me a list of all the schools you looked at in your search!

Yeah sure. I applied at SMU, OSU, Texas A&M, OU, TCU, Jewell (my one LAC), Michigan, and Dartmouth. The more schools you apply at the crazier it will be keeping deadlines straight and stuff, but it’s manageable. SMU, OSU, and Jewell offered near full rides, which means more money for Ralph Lauren and beer. I think someone like you would be really psyched going to ANY school with a huge Greek scene, though. Try places like SMU, OSU, Miami (OH) especially, Indiana, and Vanderbilt, and you should get in at all of those schools including Vandy if your ACT comes up a point or two as a Senior. Vandy is one school I wish I had applied at for sure.

Dartmouth was a $75 application fee so that was a huge waste considering I didn’t even really want to go Ivy League.

Vandy would be a big reach with a 3.2 UW, but if your ACT comes up and it is enough of a favorite, you could certainly use it as a reach.

Regarding interest in hot girls and big music scene - these were important to my son as well (along with academics! and sports)… UGA in Athens, GA was one of his favorites. And, although it is a colder, midwest location, U of Wisconsin. Madison is an awesome college town with great music. UT-Austin also came to mind.

Miami-Ohio is a really nice school and we liked it a lot, but the town is fairly small so while it is great for school, sports, girls and social, it did not strike us as a place with a true music “scene.” Of course, folks do come to perform, but it is not like Austin or Athens, for example.

hmmmm UGA eh

Seems to Me like you attend Pine View lol
Unfortunately so do I

About weighted vs. unweighted GPA… most schools don’t bother to convert weighted to unweighted, as the volume of applicants is so high. They look at grade scales, letter grades and weighted GPAs. I mean for the love of God, my HS GPA was 3.8 when I applied to college, but if it’s unweighted and only includes the “academic” classes, it’s a 3.25. With my three top choices being BU, UPenn and Penn State (Main), I got into all three. What does that tell you about GPA? 1420 SAT (no clue what I got on writing since it was irrelevant) too, so it’s not like I was some perfect SAT person.

If you want to go some place, apply. If it’s a reach, it’s a reach and you should know it, but you aren’t going to get into a place to which you don’t apply.
