3.6 W and 29 ACT

Where could I get in with these numbers?

I go to a nationally top 10 ranked gifted school and I have an upwards trend with my GPA.
My senior schedule is very strong and I will be graduating having taken 5 AP classes, and the rest honors.

I've done community service, been in clubs, played varisty lacrosse, and basically have been pretty active throughout high school.

Maybe somewhere like College of Chareston, Colorado Boulder, Arizona State, University San Diego, or a higher level school if I could get in. (I live in Florida)

Your weighted gpa is irrelevant…what is your unweighted gpa? But everything else looks good. I think you’re aiming for the right kinds of schools. Decent state flagships and decently selective private schools, like Charleston.

And btw not sure which SD you were referring to, but you should aim for UCSD not SDSU.

my UW is like a 3.2 not too great.

I was actually thinking University of San Diego

^
Oh,

What state do you live in?

I say your chances are near average at most public universities, and possibly many privates since your high school seems to be rigious. You may be a average position for some top .

I live in FL

Well I say apply to maybe at least 3 reaches, and Florida schools. In all, it really depends what your looking for in a university.

You should at least apply at UF or FSU, granted not the best college towns in the world. I was assuming your gpa was around 3.3 or 3.4, but 3.2 should still be okay, I’d say around 60% shot at OOS flagships, and 80% (near certainty) at privates like Charleston, etc. Apply at U of Miami, which might be a slight reach, but if you get in, it’s a good school (one of the few good ones in Florida).

Florida exports a lot of students to states that have better colleges.

^^^are you serious? Tallahassee and Gainesville are two of the best, and more famous, college towns in the country. There’s a reason why UF and FSU are mentioned in every party school list. Their respective towns have much to do with that.

[Attractions of a College Town - Kiplinger.com](http://www.kiplinger.com/magazine/archives/2007/05/collegetowns5.html?kipad_id=50)

^

Actually I also heard those two are not good college towns.

Drexel University I think.

Gainesville is the crappiest college town in the country and Tallahassee is the Redneck Riviera.

^^^you have obviously never visited the area. The “redneck riviera” is the nickname of Panama City which is more than 2 hours away from Tallahassee. Gainesville is not as nice, but still tolerable and somewhat fun.

Btw, Tallahassee is ranked as a Top 10 college town.

[Ten College Towns for Grownups](<a href=“Lists | Kiplinger”>Lists | Kiplinger)

Maybe one day it can aspire to be as nice as Stillwater, OK. LOL

Maybe the reason you like Tallahassee so much is because you read an article that said it was for “grownups.”

You should, you know, see the world a little. Maybe when you’re in high school.

ya I just got back from some Honors weekend at UF that I got invited too…

i got invited because I’m a commended scholar, they only invited 200 kids from the state so I felt pretty good about it.

afterwords I drove up to Tallahassee, which I thought had a nicer campus and a better college feel, but still didn’t fulfill my needs because of the city itself. (no nice restaurants or anything, no real high end area at all)

I’d say you have a good chance at USD. If I hadn’t wanted to get out of San Diego, I definitely would’ve applied; it’s close to the beach, shopping, and downtown.

It seems like you have a lot of different kinds of schools that you are considering (big OOS publics, small OOS privates, all around the country). Do you have any specific preferences (e.g. small vs big, public vs private etc.) With your grades/test scores/ECs, there are lots of schools at which you would have a good chance. It might be easier to give recommendations if you gave narrower parameters.

well there’s something about all the schools I like, its hard to narrow it down!

I want a smaller school, but I feel like Boulder is such a cool town and draws so many out of state students it’s almost like a huge private school.

I want there to be a good variety of restaurants, bars, stores, and just nice areas in the town. Also music scene is very important, and a closeness to nature. (whether that be mountains or water, OR BOTH!)

There are so many schools out there, it can definitely be hard to sort through them all. Here are some schools off the top of my head which might interest you:

Seattle U
Lewis & Clark
U of San Francisco
Loyola Marymount (Los Angeles)
Tulane
American U

Obviously these schools are very different, but they all meet some/most of your criteria. Other things to consider might be location, your (loose) intended area of study, and financial aid.

Ya good list ^^^

I’d like to either be in the South or out West.

I want there to be a pretty green campus, with lots of beautiful women, and a good jam music scene.

Some would probably say SMU, but my sister went there and I don’t think my parents want to send me there saying I can “do better”.

There really isn’t anything wrong with SMU. They attract only top students, the only thing is that once the top students go there, they don’t always retain that top student mentality, because going to SMU has them set for life if they want in the most exclusive circles of the south, especially Texas.

Yeah, Big 12 college towns put crappy Tallahassee and Gainesville to shame.

Yeah SMU is definitely sweet… Maybe I’d like a place like UofDenver or Pepperdine?

And Tallahassee and Gainesville definitely suck compared to so many colleges.
