3.65 GPA, 34 MCAT, beautiful smile

Need help with a school list/ chance me
3.65 cGPA 3.64 sGPA
34 MCAT (13 BS, 11 VR, 10 PS)
MA resident

-2 years of research in a super independent lab, could talk about it for days but no publications or presentations... yet

-One week trip to Honduras and one week trip to Panama. I raised the funds by myself and have been continually involved in the organization for 2 years now. Great shadowing opportunities.

-Spent the summer before my freshman, sophomore and junior year volunteering at a hospital. There are a ton of hours here. I'd say a total of +200 medically related volunteer hours. Had to stop this opportunity to work full time during the summer for monetary reasons.

-I have quite a nice smile, and blue eyes.

-Along with the volunteering, I was able to shadow physicians in pre and post op, along with scrubbing up for various orthopedic surgeries (neck, spine, knee to name a few). I'd say +80 shadowing hours

-I have a leadership role in a comedy group on my campus, organizing meetings and events with the members along with writing and acting in various sketches and videos. My title is executive event coordinator.

-During the past 3 summers, and coming up on this summer, I worked 40 hours a week as a trades assistant. I have learned a lot of carpentry and HV/AC along with a little plumbing. This is a manual labor job.

-Church stuff: My freshman year I traveled down to Mississippi for a week to rebuild homes for people who were affected by hurricane Katrina. I'm also a Eucharistic minister.

-Hobbies: I ski a lot and I love woodworking

Heres my school list. the MSAR scared me out of applying anywhere else, any suggestions would be really appreciated. Also, maybe DO? An * indicates places I applied to previously (I was complete in like november at most schools, ADCOM told me to reapply right away. Any reapp school on this list responded somewhat positively i.e. small pool or interview) NEED MORE SCHOOLS

You should be good for Toledo and Wright State, I am not familiar with others

Are you a reapp from this cycle? Looks like the only problem you have is applying too late; the school choices look good. I don’t know these well, but you might want to look into a Florida school. Temple? Wish I had your beautiful smile. The blue eyes are an added bonus!

Yes I am. I actually talked to an ADCOM member at the one school I interviewed at and I was told my app looks good and I should reapply right away. So that was good to hear. I added UCF and I’m researching USF right now

"“Church stuff: My freshman year I traveled down to Mississippi for a week to rebuild homes for people who were affected by hurricane Katrina. I’m also a Eucharistic minister.”"

Why aren’t you applying to SLU, Loyola, and Creighton?

are you male or female?

Do you have any ties to Alabama? If so, apply to USA.

I’m male with no ties to Alabama, unfortunately. I will look into those other schools, however. Thanks!

How about Loma Linda? They aren’t Eucharistic, but maybe they’d like your religious focus. BTW, I have to kick myself. When you wrote “I have a beautiful smile”, I thought you were a girl.

You have to throw in MUSC. I was a NY resident and chose MUSC for a practice interview. Wow, it won me over immediately during my interviews and visit like no other school did. Despite getting accepted to all of my instate schools, it was a no brainer to attend MUSC once I received my acceptance letter. It is a SOLID school and provided me a solid foundation. You would get an excellent education there and if you took advantage of the opportunities, would have no problem matching to any high ranking residency of your choice.

Nevertheless, if you have a cheaper option that is a match, keep your expenses low and consider that option. The debt will follow you especially if you choose to pursue a fellowship.

Btw, congratulations on your stats and your preparation. I wish you the best.

It’s funny you mention MUSC @frugaldoctor, I had done some research and thought the school was great but when I looked it up on the MSAR, it didn’t look like it was very friendly to out-of-staters. Was your experience different? I would love to go to South Carolina
