3.7UW gpa good enough for cornell?

Assuming you are not a URM and your test scores are good enough.

I'm asking because there was this one thread where someone had 3.7UW but 5.35W with pretty low SAT scores. Everybody was telling him he didn't even have to worry about getting into Cornell. he did have some amazing ECs, though.

But now I'm wondering, does it make a difference whether or not your W gpa totally skyrockets your gpa? Because I thought Cornell would simply cut it down to UW. Because wouldn't having a huge W gpa but a super low UW gpa mean that he really didn't do well in his AP/IB classes? and Cornell cares about transcript, not GPA.

and would amazing ECs make up for that? Starting an organization or something like that.

hm, pretty complicated stuff.

I think it depends on the competitiveness of your school. If your 3.7 is in the top 2% of your class I don’t think you will be penalized. However, if it’s because you’re lazy and/or don’t commit yourself enough to your schoolwork you most likely won’t be accepted (or so I’ve heard).

Of course it is. You don’t need to have straight As all four years of high school to go to a good school. Obviously you can’t be a C student, but don’t let a few Bs or even a C or two keep you from applying to the schools you want to go to.
