3.8 in CC VS 2.5 in top 20

If A is from community college with an excellent GPA and B studys in a great 4-year university but his GPA is not OK. And let’s say they both have similar activities.

I am wondering which one get a better chance for transferring to a better college, may be an ivy league university.
It is just a general situation to discuss.
Any ideas?

I would say the first would have a better shot at transferring. In order to transfer, you need to show that your current school isn’t giving you the resources you need (e.g. if you want to study something that isn’t offered) and that you are prepared to be challenged by a better/tougher school.

If UC, the higher GPA, for Ivy, maybe Cornell but not the rest of the Ivys. I would say very rare.

A 2.5 GPA isn’t a good GPA regardless of where it is coming from. I’d take the 3.8 CC student every time.
