im a senior. im only taking APs for classes that i have taken in high school (plus the two economics APs, which i took at my local cc). i took 2 AP tests last year, and im taking 7 this year.

I'm taking 8 AP tests this year, and am regretting it. All this AP craze is really embarrasing and to a degree pointless.
jump on the wagon, people!
It really shouldn't be about the number of APs you take. I've started my quest before realizing this, so i'll have to face about 20 hours of AP testing and 4 hours of New SAT during a two week period. NOT FUN

lol... that is crazy. 20hours? But hopefully you'll be relieved after may as people will be. Anyways I'm planning on three APs and self studying one while taking one college course. I hope this seems rigorous. This is the best I can do for next year

Ummm....maybe I am missing something...but you dont get AP scores back till the summer...and you send in applications well....months ago! So those colleges wont even conisder your senior AP tests because they accept/deject way before then! As for me...I had planned on talking a million AP tests etc this year...but now that I'm accepted and received scholarships...I am only doing AP tests that will actually count for something in college, which is probably only Calculus BC!

yeah thats what im taking em for. i didnt take many last year cuz i was afraid id fail and colleges would see that.

I don't know, I don't think it's necessary to take a ton of AP courses to get into a good college.

I got into Stanford early action and I had only completed 2 AP classes at that point and I was taking 3, and none of those grades showed up on the application since the quarter wasn't even over.

I wouldn't say I did anything else remarkable to make up for the lack of AP classes either. I mean, I have good grades and test grades and stuff but I definitely haven't done anything spectacular and I'm not under-represented or anything.

However, the people I know who have taken like over 10 AP classes also have also gotten into top colleges of course. So it's not a bad thing, but I personally wouldn't want to suffer under the workload!! I say you should challenge yourself but don't kill yourself...? Don't sacrifice other things for AP classes.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys sooner (probably forgot about me anyway). Yea, oh, I'd definitely take more than 7 APs if I could. However, our school just changed schedules and it's just really messed up. I can only take 4 classes during school time. So, I took 2 online last semester and am taking 1 online this semester.
My APs in total are:
AP World History
AP US History
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP Physics C
AP Calculus AB <--signed up for BC but couldn't fit with my current schedule
AP English Lit/Comp
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
AP Psychology

I wish I could've taken at least a total of 15 but I guess I'll just have to settle with 10. Besides, doesn't matter anymore cause I'm going to college. Wahahaha! :P

APs are not required to get into a college..

APs are owned by CollegeBoard, a private company.. Not all schools offer it.. Many schools dont.. You might live in an area with good schools that offer tons of them but some schools in less prosperous areas rarely offer 1

Although, colleges still look at your class rank which compares your schedule/grades to other students

If 3 APs are all that your school offers, what can you do? I'm going to do all the APs my school offers except for 2 (I opted out of Bio and French), which puts me at 4. To compensate for the lost 2 APs, I self-studied AP USH this year.

If you take all 3 APs your school offers, you are very competitive within your school..
Nationally, it would rather help you to do SAT IIs when AP exams for admission purposes

I think you should take 3 APs...cause if you screw up in AP English then that will basically screw up your avg. AP scores.
i think that 3 is good.

sigh i myself am taking only 2 this year...im slacker! ^_^
but i took one last year
i plan to take 3 next year
and 2 the year after...so im good! :)
My school offers...very many APs
i cant take them all...

You all are lucky. My school only offers 4 APs, 2 of which I can't take untill senior year.

Yeah, I don't think the admissions people will count it against you because your school wasn't AP crazy like some others. My schools offers 6, but none of them are available until grade 12.
