3 down 3 to go

S just finished submitting 2 apps. The safety was done a few weeks ago and was admitted. Now hopefully, next week 3 more will be submitted and wishitwas_april begins.

D had plans to apply to about 6 schools. She's applied to two safeties and has been admitted to both. Now she doesn't want to do any more, just wants to stick with the sure thing. sigh.

I am just guessing, but UT and A&M are great schools.

Almost. UT and Baylor. She didn't apply to A & M. She's more the liberal arts type. And Baylor is offering the best merit aid.

Good luck on the applications.

Islandmom: Don't you think the ennui could pass over Thanksgiving? My D is exhausted with ED, other EA apps, and her schedule of school & ECs-- the told me she yesterday just doesn't care anymore where she gets in... I think a few days of eating and vegging out will recharge her for a few more apps... After all, they've done the hard part (essays, recs). My D is doing nearly all ther apps on the common app and this makes it easy to do a few more; you just need to do a one-page supplement for each school and most don't have any sort of lengthy essay on the supplement (if anything 1 short paragraph). Maybe check into the places covered by the common app?

Hmmm, this is one countdown that I don't mind....Child not using common app....five down, working on sixth this weekend, so three to go for total of 8. She is barely ever home which makes it very difficult, and of course if she is here, has schoolwork. I know it will get done but it is quite the fall. I think my D should take some to do on the long car rides for Thankgiving as that will be the longest chunk of unscheduled time she has had in a long time and will have in a long time.

SBmom, I kinda hope you're right, I feel like you probably are. Senioritis has begun setting in. "Why should I do the independent project since I'm already admitted?" "Why should I apply to that ivy since I won't get in and it's too expensive?" "I don't want to write any more essays"

I'm having a hard time finding answers to these question cuz I got senioritis by proxy. Too much worry has worn me out.

She used common app also but now she doesn't even want to write the short "why did you choose xxx ivy" required in the supplementals. So we have four appplications just sort of hanging around unfinished in internet land.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread a little Simba.

Susan, mine used a laptop in the car to write essays last fall. His grandfather passed away and we had a 10 hour ride each way, plus the time while we were there. Just make sure you've got a back-up battery. Is this an option?

Over30, yes she has a laptop and we even have a power thing in our car to plug it in so as not to even use a battery.

Last year at this time, my dad was dying too and it was during my older D's app process. I was constantly leaving home for many days, coming back for a week, and leaving again throughout her application season. It was tough and she sometimes emailed me something at my parents' house out of state. She also went there for a few days once, missing school, to be with him. Then over Thanksgiving she came down and again, brought her laptop to do apps. He died the night she left to go back to VT. She then left and did her Smith visit with my hubby and other D in tow as they turned around to come back for the funeral. It was not easy working on apps during this time but she also had a laptop. My kids did not do common app either. This other child is not dealing with that type of thing but is barely home due to her schedule. She will be home Sat. morning and Sun. morning and that is about it. She earmarks these times for college apps but of course has homework and also work to do for the show she is directing. I figure the seven hour car trips two days apart for the holiday will be a big block of time to polish off at least one app. We hopefully are winding down. A few schools have additional essays to write to bring to auditions in Jan. so that is also waiting when the apps are done.

Last year, with another child who had such a very full daily schedule, I always wondered how in the world she would fit in 8 college apps and numerous essays and all the rest but she did and this one will too. It is amazing what these kids have to do though. I mean they still have to keep up with their grades too.

Susan

Mine did manage finish....two of his did not use the common application and many had additional supplemental essays. He started out great guns, and then it became more tedious. He was driven only by the time constraints that teachers and counselors experience at his large high school. Now it's wait until April like Soozie said.
