3 weeks since final, no grade yet...

So it's been almost 3 weeks since DS's last final. He is still waiting for a grade from his most important class. It's a science class, no long papers for the prof to read, 2 TAs for a class with <30 kids, the only undergrad course the prof taught. Same thing happened after fall semester. Not worried about having done badly, just wants to 'finish' off the semester.

What are other peoples experiences? Does this seem unreasonably long or does this kind of stuff happen regularly?

I think it’s unreasonable, but not at all unusual either. Which is wrong to me, especially if you are paying big tuition.

At our uni, it tends to depend on when the true final deadline is for all grades to be in, rather than the rule about x days from the final for any particular course.

DS should pick up the phone, and call the registrar’s office, and ask about this. Sometimes the grades have been submitted, but haven’t been recorded properly. The registrar will be able to figure out what has happened.

Son had a class and grades were supposed to be submitted by December 22. They showed up around January 10. I recall asking my sister about her daughter’s grades one time around the third week of January and she said that they hadn’t received all of them yet. So yes, professors sometimes do take their time submitting grades and I don’t think that there’s a lot that you can do about it.

It’s not that unusual. At my college no grades were posted until two weeks after the end of the semester (at least), and then it was not uncommon for some professors to be a couple weeks late.

Unfortunately, it isn’t that unusual, especially in the hard science “weeder” classes like General Chemistry for majors and Organic Chemistry. But, it can be a huge problem if you MUST pass a certain class to take subsequent classes, and if you don’t know if you’ve received a passing grade, scheduling your next semester (or even the entire next year) can be extremely problematic. Glad that isn’t your son’s situation, though. :)
