3 years of math?

So this is for my friend. They started high school in pre calc and took Calc AB and BC sophomore year and junior year, respectively. Due to scheduling restraints, her counselor will not let her take AP Stats. She doesn't really feel the need to take a class at the CC. She is applying to top tier nuclear engineering school. Is it nescessary to find a way to take this fourth year of math? Or is she ok with only those 3 classes?

No, that should be fine. She might want to practice her calculus senior year in order to retain the material but for admission purposes there is no problem. I had the same sequence (well, I did take Stats but I did it earlier) and it was fine.

Given that she has completed Calc BC, I don’t see a problem. However, she should have her counselor note in the reference letter that she would have liked to take AP stats but wasn’t able to due to a schedule conflict.

“Four years of math in high school” typically means a minimum of precalculus and trigonometry. Completion of calculus in high school is beyond that. Of course, students are typically encouraged to continue until exhausting the offerings, though note that AP statistics is not generally considered a particularly difficult or advanced course compared to calculus, so leaving that out is unlikely to be a big deal.

Thanks for the responses!
