3 years, then med school?

Is it wise to finish college in less than 4 years and then apply to med school?

If you're smart enough and if you really want to.
Why the rush?

No it's not wise.

You'll have to apply after only completing 2 years of college, which means you'll have 50% less time to accumulate grades and accomplishments as compared to your average competition who are applying after 3 years. In something as competitive as medical school admissions where nationwide the acceptance rate is only 42%, you need all the positive things you can when you do finally apply.

Given that the average age for a first year medical student is usually 24 or 25 depending on the year (check AAMC.org for stats), it would seem that most people have to wait 1-2 years after college graduation before starting medical school. While most do this involuntarily (ie they get rejected) there is certainly a sizable number that wait on purpose, allowing them to do research, work or otherwise build their resume.
