Is it better to graduate in 3 years with all of my core science classes done and a good GPA or in 4 years with science and art classes and a good GPA. Will med school prefer to have one over the other? Will they really care? If I graduate in 3 years I can save money and time. The reason I can graduate in 3 years is because I got AP credit for all my free electives. Thanks

They tend to prefer 4 years. Take the time to broaden and enrich yourself and enjoy undergrad, Med school is a beating by comparison.

Also being a “young” applicant (under 21-22) is NOT a good thing.

The current trend in med school admissions is towards slightly older (24-26), more mature candidates with a greater breadth of life experiences.

Keep in mind that if you use your science AP credits, you have to replace them with more difficult choices.

What APs will you be using?

Also…Would your plan be to take a year off before med school? If not, then that would make your 3rd year very complicated because of interviews and travel.

It’s nice to have a more flexible 4th year to accomodate interviews, etc. If you can, choose courses that have Fridays off for your Fall senior year.

You need to ask yourself which one is your personal preference. People are in diff. situation. Some have minor(s), double/triple majors, others just want to take it easy senior year, have less classes both junior and senior year (Junior - MCAT prep, Senior - interviews), third group are boht and you have your own situations with details unknown to us. So, how we can advice you? I have examples of successful applicants with various lengths in UG, including 3.5.

Ok thanks everyone. I wasn’t going to take AP Credit for any sciences, just histories, art, and stuff. I think I would take a year off before med school if I graduated in 3 years.
