Georgetown (EA) School of Foreign Service
Boston College (EA)
Notre Dame (EA)
Tufts
NYU</p>

<p>any other suggestions?
I also signed up for the ACT for December.</p>

<p>below 10k?</p>

<p>yeah.
9,940
without adding the welfare check and all social services stuff.</p>

<p>wow...i feel for ya dawg</p>

<p>yeah below 10k is definitely a hard living style. definitely emphasize that in your essay and show how you came through that kind of hardship to get the grades that you received. i think if anything, your income level would be your hook, not the major for a day award.</p>

<p>oh.
well. im not sure
if i wanna talk about my 10k u know?
i mean people in other countries are starving right now.
i have no right to say that 10k is harad u know?</p>

<p>Georgetown (EA) School of Foreign Service--you would definitely be accepted at Georgetown if you applied for any other school at all besides this one. Even at that, I consider you really close to acceptance--maybe Slight Reach (you must understand that SFS is almost as difficult to get into as Harvard)
Boston College (EA)--Match
Notre Dame (EA)--Match
Tufts--Match
NYU--Safe Match</p>

<p>and people, please don't give me grief about BC, Notre Dame, and Tufts being tougher to get into than Georgetown--because we're talking about Georgetown SFS here (which is tougher to get into the all of the other three colleges).</p>

<p>bump.</p>

<p>more inputs would be greatly appreciated.</p>

<p>Your situation is truly amazing - a 10k refugee who has risen to the top of the class and community. Your in at georgetown, and could even get probally into HYP (if lucky). Dont worry.</p>

<p>I'm nothing special. I'm just another kid just trying to make a better life for myself. I mean, i came from a war-torn country. I try to use my opportunities wisely. Hopefully i got in.
because there were 2 essays i had to write
and the first one, i wroet about how i grew up receiving all these social services, and that enable me to pursue a career of helping people out in need
and the second one was about a global issue.
and i talked about buddhist monks in myanmar fighting for democracy, and how its connected to me because i used to be in that situation in Vietnam when we were fighting communism.
Hopefully i get it.</p>

<p>Honestly, I hope you do too. Us 30's need to stick together :) I'm applying ED to Cornell, I know the stress...</p>

<p>oh thanks.
ahha yeah go 30.
im taking it again though
going for 33+.
i needa prep this time.
i havent gotten my interview yet or notifications that materials been received
so im kinda nervoussssssss</p>

<p>I think you will be fine. Your story is amazing and colleges will eat that up, especially NYU. Have you looked at Berkley, I would assume it is cheaper than the schools you have listed. I am just thinking about you having a lot of debt when you graduate from Georgetown and Berkley could ease that. Whatever school you chose I wish you luck because you worked hard for everything.</p>

<p>Oh thank you albpace. But seriously, my story is nothing unusual. There was an influx of vietnamese immigrants in the 1990s so im sure tehres plenty of people out there just like me. I just want to make it you know? make a name for myself.
I visited berkeley when i was up in sacramento. I didn't like teh campus vibe. I don't think it fits me.
I know that it will be cheaper. but for right now, my EFC is zero dollars, and im hoping to score some scholarship money that will help me.
I plan on going to law school as well. but thank you for your input. i appreciate it a lot.</p>

<p>Ehhh. Harvard is about twice as selective as SFS with a 9% acceptance rate compared to SFS's 18% acceptance rate.
Also, SFS is not substantially more selective than Georgetown's other schools.

<p>oh.
thanks padfoot.
hopefully i get in.</p>

<p>Ummm.... 10k family income and you never got a summer job, or a part time job? Maybe colleges will raise an eyebrow for this :(</p>

<p>Considering that you're parents make only 10k (IF that's genuine), you have EXCELLENT stats.</p>

<p>to kowloon:
I did get a part time job. I've worked at Sears from sophomore year to now.
and in freshman year i was a tutor.
i had a typo in the work experience sicne i put freshman til 12th. but for my college apps, i put 10th to 12th
I HAVE BEEN WORKING since forever.
and my parents DO MAKE 10K. IT IS GENUINE.
I WOULDNT MAKE IT UP.
I HAVE TO SEND IN THE TAX RETURNS.
SO OF COURSE IM BEING TRUTHFUL....</p>

<p>They make $2.50 an hour in California? (Assuming they both work fulltime)</p>

<p>my mom works as a sewer in a clothes factory in california.
and my dad.
is an ironer
he irons the clothes.
and they get like 5 cents for each like shirt they sew/iron
WHEN YOU DONT HAVE.. NOT EVEN A HIGH SCHOOL DEGREE. AND YOU CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH. OBVIOUSLY YOUR CHOICES ARE LIMITED. YOU KNOW?
i dont blame my parents; they work from 8 in the morning til 8 at night.
why would i be lying about my parents profession?</p>
