hi guys!

i'm a 30 year old single mom at a community college. my gpa is 3.4, and I do have community service hours. i'm going to be applying this year, and wanted to know where i can get into with my gpa being so average.

i'm the first person in my family to be in college. i come from a low income household, and i'm also an intern for a start up company.

what are my chances on getting into UCI, UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UCSB, USC, and other schools with reentry programs for adult students?

please chance me!!

oh and if anyone has information about schools with reentry programs for adult students, please let me know. i appreciate it!

Do you live in California? Do you want to stay near home, or are you willing to move? What do you want to study? Do you have any standardized test scores?

Several women’s colleges have programs for older women and/or single mothers. Look at Frances Perkins (Mount Holyoke), Ada Comstock (Smith), and McBride (Bryn Mawr) programs, and look at Wilson College. All are on East Coast.

Southeastern Pennsylvania has lots of adult degree completion programs. They tend to be in large universities and in small Catholic colleges. If you want another part of the country, check these.

And find out where the students from your community college tend to end up if they transfer. The schools may have transfer articulation agreements that make the transition easier.

hi wordworker,
thanks for replying to my post! i do live in california, and would prefer to stay here, but if i have ANY chance in getting into a good school outside of california… i would be more than happy to pack up my things and move with my daughter.

after spending hours on this site,i realized how average my gpa is… i’m wondering if i’ll be able to get in anywhere. my major is psychology and want to minor in sociology.

thank you for your advice with the listed colleges above. i’ll def. research. do you think you can chance me btw?

thanks again!! really appreciate it!

Im a high school drop out so no…on the test scores. .

Is UC Irvine the absolute lowest ranked school you’re willing to go to? You’ll want to go to a public in-state college to save as much money as possible, since you are a psych major – graduate school is mandatory if you want to get any sort of job. UC Irvine is a match because you have many hooks. The rest are low reaches to reaches. You may also want to look into the better CSUs, such as CSULB or SDSU. They are good schools too, and can save you more money.

I’m not trying to be one of those “holier than thou” people, but, are you certain that you realize the value of majoring in psychology?

In short, what I’m asking is, are you sure that attaining a degree in psychology will be able to get you a decent job?

If you’re doing it just for the learning, that’s fine, but, if not, make sure you understand the risks of choosing a subject like psychology (not exactly the hottest job market) and having to study for it another 2-3 years, then not finding a job that uses the degree you just blew a fortune on.

Any adult transfers that can give me some feedback?
