Hey guys--

So i'm a senior applying to schools, and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should take the ACT for a final time. I have 3 subject tests over 700, a 2180 (800-780-600) on the SAT, and I took the ACT in June for the first time and got a 31. I can take it in October, but I'm just not sure how much time I would be able to put into raising my score hopefully a few points to a 32 or 33. I'm extremely busy with school, apps, internships, sports, and other extracurriculars, and I could definitely the effort into getting a 31.5/32, maybe a 32.5, but not higher.

The most competitive schools I'm applying to are Georgetown, UC Berekely, UCLA, Barnard, and GWU... what are your thoughts? Is it worth it, and is it worth it to put a ton of effort into studying? Or just a bit? Or is my 31 solid enough?

Thanks!

Is the 600 on your SAT writing??

No, I got an 800 reading, 780 writing, and 600 math. I’m definitely a more humanities oriented person

The W score isn’t really used for admissions or scholarships. Is the 1400 from one sitting? If so, then it is a bit better than an ACT 31.

It may be better for you to retake the SAT…or both if you can squeeze them in.

are you instate for the UC’s?

I took the SAT 3 times so I’m not taking it again, and yes I’m in California

There’s no harm in taking the ACT one more time, but I wouldn’t invest too much time into prep. A 31 is a respectable composite score. How did you do on their Math portion? Better or worse than your SAT? I figure a 600 is comparable to a 27 on the ACT. Your strong Verbal scores should compensate, to some extent.

A higher test score may help with getting merit from GWU or less selective schools. Something to keep in mind.

For admissions purposes, any ACT within the %25-75th range of a school can’t really hurt you. A higher score can help but if the rest of your application is lacking, you want to place focus there instead.
