33 ACT - pre med - WHERE TO GO TO UG??

^^^Interesting… I guess WUSTL didn’t mention that in their Doctor Days because they figured everyone there would have stats from high school to match. I wonder what they do with those who don’t…

If anyone is going this year, I’d love to hear their answer to the “Does anything from high school count” question… The times I’ve heard that one the only exception was college level courses, but I don’t recall hearing it from WUSTL.

"Question for other posters concerning those “doctor days”…. should one go visit med schools if you are in college and planning on applying to MS next year? "
-What my D. did: she had her criteria for choosing where to apply to Med. School.
The visits came later, they were interview visits.
She choose 2 SOMs out of the ones that she was accepted to. She went to Second Look event at both and made her final decision after that. She did not choose the higher ranked and she did not choose the cheapest, she choose the one that she liked the best based on her own criteria.
I do not see any reason to visit any SOM before interviews. You will not get any information important for decsion making, none at all.
Nothing from HS counts at all, no Med. Research lab experiences, no shadowing, volunteering, your HS rank, your ECs, nothing, do not bother. Most pre-meds have so much that they have hard time fitting their college experiences and stats into theri application, my D. skipped bvery importan things, she said application being too long is not a good idea, it was just getting too much.

Plu…what kind of high school data? grades? ECs?

I didn’t apply to duke but WUSTL asked for SAT scores. If I recall it was the only one of the 23 secondaries I did that asked for it.

At least one my son’s schools asked for SAT & ACT scores and asked for the high school name.

I thought maybe the high school name request was to determine whether the student had lived in an under-privileged area.

Of the few secondary apps of my son that I peaked into, 3 have asked for his SAT scores and 1 that has asked for his high school name and GPA also.

Duke wanted the name of my HS, GPA and class rank.

Name of high school is on AMCAS so every school sees that but I assumed that’s just to verify that you graduated from high school (and could potentially be used to get an idea of SES/disadvantaged background - much like it’s used in need blind college admissions)
