Hi, I am applying in the fall and am wondering whether or not I should take the SAT 1 again and submit it in my application. I received a 35 composite on the ACT with a 9 on writing and a 800 on Math 2, 800 on Chemistry, and 780 on Biology M for the SAT 2. My SAT score right now is a 2150 (760 on math, 750 on writing, 640 on reading). I can definitely boost my reading score, but as is, is it worth sending the SAT or should I just send the ACT with the SAT 2 scores? Do top colleges really want to see both the ACT and SAT 1? Or is it truly optional?
Thanks

For schools that do not require that all scores be sent, there is no point in sending your SAT Reasoning Test score, as it is worse than your ACT score. There is no need to retake.

Send both, just because you did well on the ACT, and you can get your SAT score up

^ I don’t understand your logic.

Send ACT only.

35 only 35=2300+ score

Colleges aren’t going to add your two scores. There’s no point in sending the SAT. Send the ACT only.

@silverturtle…I thought drew13 would take the sat again…he said “I can improve my reading score”…if he can get his score to over 2200…then why not send both?

^ If circumstances change, my advice may change. But I’ve seen enough cases of people not improving when they expected to for me to assume only what has already happened.

I see…but do colleges really give the same weight to the SAT as the ACT?

^ Officially, yes. Unofficially, probably yes, with any departure from that being minor.

Definitely just send the ACT and subject test scores. Those are VERY strong scores, and the SAT Reasoning will only bring you down.

Send them all. The ACT is better than the 2150, but the 800s and 780 SAT2s are sweet. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Throw it all out there and let them check your bad self out. Write some smokin’ essays.

^ I don’t understand this unless the university in question requires that the SAT I scores be sent along with the SAT II’s.

If you can send only the ACT along with the SAT II scores, do that. I don’t see a point in taking the SAT I again.

Sometimes I read “retake” threads and think that the people replying are just trying to cut down on the competition (as in, “Your 28 is good enough.”) This is not such a case.

Really, your 35 is good enough, even without a correspondingly-high SAT I. If I recall correctly, slightly over 4,000 students scored a 35 or above last year. I think even a 33 composite is in the 99th percentile on the ACT. You can look up the exact numbers on the ACT website.

I don’t see a point in taking the SAT I again, either.

Yes, it is truly optional. Send in the ACT score along with the SATIIs, not the SATI.

send on ACT. do not send in both. never create contradictions or for the people who read your application to wonder about the two scores.

Send ACT scores.
But if you are unsure then send both. There’s no harm in sending both. They are both decent scores and might just help your chances of admission. It would just cost you a bit more. that’s it.

I have the same dilemma.
I will be retaking the SAT in October, but I got a 2150 last year (770M, 730CR, 650W) and a 34 ACT the year before.

I’m applying EA to a school, and I dont know if I should use one of those 4 free score reports in october to that school. Hopefully I will get a 2200+ but you never know right? (: Should I just send ACT scores?

Sorry for mooching on your thread, but the situations are similar…

Just send in your ACT score along with your SAT IIs. Your ACT score is superior to your SAT score; there is no point in retaking the SAT I.
