35 or 36 on ACT or 2250?

Would you rather get a 35 or 36 on ACT or 2250 on SAT?

I hear that colleges say they do not care which test you take, but alot of kids at my school say that SAT is more respected and that college admissions officers know that SAT is much harder.

What do you think?

I think your school is in the eastern part of the U.S.

MD Mom, please answer the question. which is better in terms of admissions (not regional, but what colleges like)?

Officially, the tests are considered equally. I have no objective reason to doubt this.

See [Estimated Relationship between ACT Composite Score and SAT CR+M+W Score](http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/estimate.html).

I can’t answer the question. I think that on the East Coast, the SAT is more common. In the Midwest, for students staying in the Midwest, the ACT is more common. We are on the East Coast. Here kids mostly take the SAT unless they do poorly on it and then they take the ACT. I think that the ACT can be substituted for SAT subject tests at some colleges (I don’t know which ones) and in my view that would be great.

The other consideration is for kids who want to compete for National Merit, the SAT is required.

For the vast majority of students, it does not matter which test they take.

35/36, obviously. Where I live the ACT is used way more than the SAT. Neither test is harder overall, it’s all curved to be comparitive anyways. So top 0.2% is much better than top 3%.

So, would you rather get a 35 or 36 or a 2250. Honestly?

bump

I would rather have 35 than 2250.

Honestly, I would rather get a 35/36.

but do you think it will make a huge difference?

My counselor said that the diff between a 2250 and 2300 is negligible.

In most cases, 50 points is of negligible importance. But in some cases, it could be the difference between acceptance and rejection.

Can you let us know WHY you are asking this, because otherwise its a pretty pointless question.

I agree. Why are you obsessing over this? Both a 35/36 on the ACT and a 2250 on the SAT are excellent scores. Send both and see what happens.

I got a 2250 (am a rising senior). I am not sure whether or not I want to take the ACT. If I do take it I am pretty sure I can get a 35 or 36, just not sure whether a 35 or 36 is even respected since everyone I know keeps telling me that collegepeople know that SATs are much harder and that ACTs are for ppl who don’t do well on SAT (esp. cus i am from east coast)

Don’t bother with the ACT. It is not necssary.

See post #2. lol

Is it only unnecessary because I live in an area where 95% people take the SATs.

If i did get a 35 or 36 and sent that in, do you think it would make the 2250 look baD?

What schools are you aiming for? Also, a 35/36 ACT won’t make your 2250 look bad.

No, it wouldn’t make it look bad. My son did better on the ACT than the SAT. He did very well on his subject tests. He sent everything in and it didn’t affect his acceptances at all.

some Ivies, amherst, swarthmore, washu.

i just want my scores wont be a hindrance to my app that is strong esp. with regards to heavy courseload, very strong ECs, good recs, volunteer, varsity sport, essay etc

Neither score would be a detriment to your application. A 2250 is strong and a 35/36 is strong. No worries. Take a deep breath. Relax… Everything will work out just fine! :-)
