hi everyone,
I was just wondering, does ucla have any majors any/or minors dealing with 3d animation (i.e. game developement, etc..). and, if so, how good are the classes in this area.
thanks for any responses in advance

dunno about 3D but I hear UCLA has a very coveted animation workshop...

Yes. UCLA offers 3D animation courses in two majors: Film and Television, and Computer Science. Film and Television majors can take the FILM TV 181A/B/C "Animation" cluster for their Senior Concentration requirement; the courses teach 2D/3D animation techniques and theory in film-making. Computer Science majors can take the CS 174A/B/C "Computer Graphics" cluster for their CS elective requirement; the courses teach rendering and simulation for industry. Both majors are recruited by the game development sector for their expertise in animation.

thanks for the info flopsy, that CS 174 sounds interesting. Is that with that greek Professor who was at the engineering open house?

CS 174A sounds very interesting....I really want to take classes like these but stupid EE program is too damn big

Yes, that is correct. CS 174A/B/C are taught by two of the CS professors who lectured about their research at Engineering Open House: Prof. Faloutsos, who spoke about the DANCE system (involving the skeleton kinematics) and Prof. Soatto, who spoke about the UCLA team in the DARPA Grand Challenge (involving the autonomous off-road driving system).

Oh, I thought the DARPA guy was a grad student. Maybe I didn't stay for the end.
