It’s that wonderful time of year where I get to choose my classes. Right now I take two APs and I have a 4.0 UW GPA. I play Football and Lacrosse, while doing workouts for lax during the winter.
Next year I’m slotted to take the following:
AP Calc AB/BC (Everyday)
AP Physics 1
AP Lang
AP Human Geography
H World History
Forensics/H Contemporary Voices
Study Hall
My school runs on an A/B schedule so I have classes every other day except for calc. I have heard that Lang, Hug, and Physics assign barely any homework. World History is a complete joke at my school that could easily be another study hall and same with forensics first semester. Also, I am generally interested in all the classes be uses I really enjoy learning and the Honors options for Physics and Lang are basically the same workload at my school. I need to take AP Hug either next year or senior year for a completer I do. Is this doable?
Only you know what your capabilities are. Many top students take 4 AP’s as a junior with a few slate of AP’s with no problem. Personally it looks doable to me. I only have one suggestion for you:
I’d warn you that the AP Physics 1 exam results from last year were abysmal, for a number of reasons that have been discussed elsewhere on this forum; 63% of the test takers failed the exam. So while there may be little HW in the class, if you expect to take the exam, you’re going to have to do a lot of prep on your own.
One more thing, which may not apply to you. If you plan on applying to colleges that require Subject Tests, and you’re planning on taking the physics subject test, AP Physics 1 will not cover all of the topics you need to know. If that’s the case, Honors Physics might be a better option.
Should be fine, human geo is a complete joke and calc/ physics will be easy if you’re a math person. AP Lang is really the only one of those that has a lot of work.
It should be fine, except that you don’t have foreign language.
@MYOS1634 I’m debating switching into French 4, but honestly I can’t stand that class. The teacher is horrible and I actually don’t know French, just how to use google translate. Not that many people go into French 4, so it might end up being online which I wouldn’t enjoy.
Any way you can take French 3 at a community college (covers high school French 4)? This way you get the credit and you don’t have to take a horrible class.
@MYOS1634 My school doesn’t allow Juniors to go to the community college unfortunately, so most likely I’m not gonna take it cause my counselor understands that it will hurt my education more than help it.
Does the CC allow dual enrollment during the summer?
@MYOS1634 not really, my county pretty much discourages DE since they offer a lot of APs
okay. it’ll hurt you a bit so instead what could you take (fun class?) during that study hall period?
@MYOS1634 oh I contemporary voices and forensics are my fun classes, at my school students with 3 APs are forced to take study hall. Plus I play three sports, so I never get a season off.
Everything’s fine then. All you have to do now is… get a B or higher in every single one of these!!
@MYOS1634 thank you for your input, and I will try my best to
@MYOS1634 so I talked to my counselor today, and they are offering H French 4 next year with a new teacher. Do you think it will be beneficial to move AP Hug to senior year and take French?
I’m not MYOS, but I certainly think so.
Absolutely: AP HUG is a “gateway course” (to help freshmen/sophomores prepare to take AP’s in the following years), so for you it’d be like a more rigorous fun course (sort of like sociology H or forensics H would be if they existed), whereas French 4H is a core course at honors level. MUCH more valuable to your learning and to colleges.
