4 National Awards + Major EC's in Same Area = Hook?

Alright so here's my situation. If the cookie crumbles in my direction, I will get my 4th national award in writing this October with the NCTE Award. As my username might also imply, I have major EC's in writing and my CommonApp essay describes in a personal way how a certain aspect of my childhood influenced the writer and intellectual I have become today. My question is: people here on CC often talk about how it's necessary to develop deep achievement in a specific academic area, even to the point where it becomes a "hook". Does my resume in the field of writing fall close to, or into, this category? How much do the things I've done and won, especially the fact that they're all in the same field, help my chances for admission? Thank you for your time.

PS- My top "dream" schools are Stanford and Yale.

I'd say it's definitely something positive and may help you get into Stanford and Yale.

bummmmmmmmmp

It would be a positive as long as your grades, and scores are all in the range as well. Writing is a talent that colleges need- however I think that "hook" is the wrong word her- as you have no doubt read on cc- even kids with international awards are sometimes rejected. There are only a few students that really have a "hook" so you can use your writing to help you stand out- but just make sure you have the grades, scores, rank and ec's to go along with it. Good luck and congrats!!

No, it's not a hook. It's an awesome indication of direction, passion, and personality though, and will certainly help your application.
