I’m really setting my sights on being a surgeon when I’m older and, I’d like to see if anyone else has some insight on good classes to take to get into a good program, especially a guaranteed med school one. Btw I’m going to be a freshman in September and I’ve already taken algebra and geometry. Thx!
Science: Since your preferred future career will rely heavily on this, I recommend you take as many courses in the highest rigor you can, during high school. For example, take as many “honors” or AP classes, or whatever else your school labels as higher in rigor. This goes for all of your other classes as well.
Some good classes for Science: Human Anatomy and Physiology related classes, Biology, Chemistry, Medicine related classes, Health related classes, etc.
Math: You should get a good holding on math, and try to complete up to Calculus.
Other Subjects: Take four full years of each major subject, including Science, Math, English, and Social Studies.
You should take band, as well. In my opinion, it would be extremely beneficial to have an elective that allows for you to show people that you are passionate.
All in all, it seems like a good plan and I’d love to continue band but, do you have any past experience showing the benefits?
No, I’m going into freshmen year in September as well… but I am 100% sure that colleges prefer a musician + student rather than a mindless school-driven student (not that you would be if you didn’t do band, but I’m just saying.)
English, writing, and lots of reading.
