4 years of History & Language for Ivies?

I have some questions about high school course selection. I’m aiming for the Ivies.

  1. Should I take a language for all 4 years? This would be going up to level 5. Is it okay to take it for only 3 years? (level 4)
  2. Should I take history for all 4 years? I'm not sure what I'm going to major in, but I'm thinking humanities/economics/journalism. Since history is related to these, would admissions officers think, "Hmm, why didn't s/he take it for 4 years if s/he's planning to major in that?"

Thanks for your help!

If you want to major in something related to humanities then I would take 4 years of history and maybe double up one of those years.
Colleges want to see FL to level 4 so it would be okay to take only 3 years. However, what class are you going to replace FL with? If it’s a blowoff class than that won’t look good.

Ivies want 4 years of all FIVE core subjects (math, English, science, social studies and foreign language).

Yes

Since most colleges do not admit by major, they probably will not think that. However, I would suggest you take 4 years since you are thinking of something humanities focused.

If you’re planning on majoring in the Humanities, you should try to have Language up to Level 5 + History senior year, unless you have unique academic opportunities those classes would make you miss out on.
