hey i am a junior in HS
i know harvard wants 4 years of math...but do i need to take the fourth year math at my HS? i am thinking about taking calculus I and II at my community college next year (in pre-cal Honors this year btw) b/c my school has ap calc ab and also, i heard that even ap calc bc doesn't prep u enough for university level multivariable calc. i really want to use CC courses b/c they are cheaper than APs anyway.

is this okay? or must i take all 4 years of math at my HS?

It’s up to you. It may actually help you to do it at a CC. Sometimes CC classes are weighted more than AP’s. Sticking with the high school class is fine, too. Whichever is better for you.

Hi Almafuerte~I do not know what state you are from, so this may not apply to you. I would encourage you to sign up for your schools AP Cal BC your senior year if it is an option, for two reasons. 1/ BC will cover AB in the first couple of weeks-thereby eliminating time spent just on the AB material-but with the caveate that both you and your current math teacher feel you are up to the rigor of a more accelerated class. 2/CC’s are being heavily impacted by state budgets. Space in the CC will be limited, and your high school/cc will likely have to “agree” on your attendance, and may not approve it.
G’Luck-

my school doesn’t offer bc…that is why i am considering CC course.
yeah…the budget crisis does worry me, but the class seems to always have one or two open seats (hopeful)

so four yrs of math…doesn’t matter where you took them…got it! thanks!
