Congratulations! We have selected you for our first round of interviews for the McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship worth $40,000. We will be awarding 50 scholarships this year and will be interviewing about 100 students – all those interviewed will have a 50% chance of winning!

The following questionnaire will help us gain some additional knowledge about you before we select our finalists for telephone interviews. We will not be selecting everyone for a telephone interview, so please make sure you complete this questionnaire.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please answer the questionnaire here This questionnaire should be filled out no later than Sunday, February 11th, 2007 12:01AM PST.

Please do not send any other correspondence at this time; we will ask for additional information if and when it is needed.

At the end of this questionnaire, you must select an appointment time and day of week for us to contact you should we choose you for a final telephone interview. A confirmation will be sent to you via email to let you know if we have selected you for this interview and when it will take place. We will also notify those students who will not be considered for the scholarship by the end of February.

Please reply to this email with any questions or comments.

I got this same email, but I am a little confused. It says we have been selected for the first round of interviews, but then it says we may not get a phone interview, and that only the top 100 get phone interviews. So was the questionaire our first "interview?" and are we in the top 100? I really want this scholarship....

Has anyone heard from the foundation about an interview yet? I wonder if they're going to notify us or just call. I hope I got one since it does seem that perhaps not everyone gets one. Anyone been contacted?

No clue. The email was so vague. I signed up for a Friday 4:00 interview, so if anything happens today, I'll be sure to inform. But its not even clear if we're getting interviews at all....argh.

Here is how I interpreted the e-mailed: More than 100 people received the e-mail for the online survey. Of the people who complete the survey, 100 will be chosen for a telephone interview. Of those 100 people, 50 will get the scholarship. I have no idea how many people got the online survey, but I would suspect that it is not many since the survey did not provide very much information.

Also, I think that either nobody on this forum got the telephone interview or the foundation has not picked the 100 people yet. However, the e-mail did say that if we did not qualify for an interview we will be notified by the end of February. So it is entirely possible that that is when the people who will get the interview are also notified.

But if anyone does get any more information, please share it with everyone here.

Has anyone heard from McKelvey yet? I still have not heard from them about the next round. I am hoping to hear from them soon, regardless of what their decision is (although I would love to move on to the next round)

it seems as if everyone who applied in the first round got one of those letters -that it was basically only an addition to guage our interest and to help them judge our candidacy.

Does anyone here know anyone that didn't receive one of these e-mails?

I don't know anyone else who applied for the scholarship, but we all should know something soon, since they said they would notify the people who did not qualify by the end of February, so I would assume that we would all hear from them saying something - whether it's that we qualified for the telephone interview, did not qualify, or everything is postponed I do not know.

Also, for the online survey, for me, I answered the first page which did not include much information (the hardest question was something like "What is your dream job at age 30" and the answer had to be in 25 words or less) and then all the next page did was ask what date and time I wanted the telephone interview if I got it. Did anyone else have this time or different experience with the online survey?

I emailed Christine McKelvey regarding the interviews as well as a question regarding time zones and the interview. I have pasted her response below.

Mrs. Mckelvey,

When I answered the questionaire that was emailed to me I said that 5:00 on Wednesday would be a good time to contact me for an interview (if I am selected for one). I just realized however that you are likely on Eastern time, which would mean I would be called in the middle of my evening college economics course. Would it be possible to change this time to 4:00 pm on Wednesday? I am sorry to bother you with this, I just felt it would be better to fix the problem now rather than later.

Do you have any idea as to when we will be notified if we will be receiving a phone interview? I know that the email said we would be notified by the end of Feb. if we are NOT going to receive the scholarship.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Willbanks
2007 McKelvey Award Hopeful

RESPONSE:
Jonathan,
We will assume that the time you gave us is your local time. If we chose you for an interview, we will be touching base with you to schedule it so we can confirm the exact time then. We hope to have everyone scheduled by next week so that we can begin our interviews immediately after...we are running a few days behind schedule.

Thank you,
Christine

She has been extremely helpful and friendly. I need this scholarship sooooo badly! I'm so nervous....

Jonathan, thanks sooo much! I really appreciate your taking the initiative to find out what's going on. I'm so excited that we're getting closer to finding out about interview. Thanks so much for the info :)

The way that she said "We hope to have everyone scheduled by next week" makes me think that they have already contacted some people, although I may just be thinking too much into it. I wish that Christine had said how many people had been offered the online survey, since we know 100 of those will be chosen for the telephone interview.
