nice job....

wanna give me the link to your website and some info about it now?

no email or anything, just the letter? i am unable to recieve mail until tuesday so I get to wait even longer

Hey guys,

I just googled and found this page. I just received notice that I too won this scholarship.

I'm excited to meet everyone in NYC and learn what everyone else does.

It's funny because I think as an entrepreneur we all think that we pretty much are awesome, and we have the best businesses, blah blah blah, and I think meeting everyone in NYC will be a humbling and really interesting experience. It definitely will be a battle of egos.

Send me a message if you got it so we can chat some more!

-Anthony

Haha ... real nice.

This might **** you off ... but I have a hosting business as well, along with a number of other ventures.

I wish that our meeting was longer than 2 days, though... :(

Ehh, it's not that bad. It's so cool that they are paying for all the expenses though ... I live in Jersey right next to NYC so it's not a big deal - but I'm sure there are tons of kids that live in rural parts and real far away that have never seen NYC.

cc77cc77cc-
conratulations

Hey man, you have to chill. Right now you aren't expressing any type of "people skills".

Either way, I said I have a number of other ventures. I just started off with web hosting. There is plenty of interaction with the people I deal with as well. This is a technology driven world, and if you want to acheive something greater in life, atleast the way I see it, it won't be mowing lawns. I provide consulting services and web development services to law firms, record labels, construction companies, etc. I service a decent amount of web hosting clients, and I'm able to offer 24/7 support via a ticket interface through my outsourced technical support center. I have the availability of 30+ college graduate tech. support agents and server administrators to ensure that servers are up and running 24/7 and that all support requests are answered within one hour of submission.

Also, I think winning 1st place in FBLA's Entrepreneurship competition is a pretty good indicator of my entrepreneurial spirit and inclination.

To address your concern about my people skills and how much I suck, I believe that my internship as a corporate trainer and recruiter at a design firm would solidify me as a good "people-person" as I have brought the company thousands of dollars and a handful of sales reps through my recruitment and training process.

Seriously though, don't let this scholarship let you down. Start networking with some of your clients, start figuring out ways to branch out your existing resources, look beyond and identify people's needs.

I don't think an entrepreneur is one that just runs any business ... I think an entrepreneur has a certain psyche that changes the way he/she looks at the world. It's something that never stops and keeps on going.

thanks grace.

hxanthony: I agree with your definition of an entrepreneur: it's not something that you can try to become; it's something that you are. Too often I see high school students take an average job of McDonalds, unwilling to think outside of the box and make their own opportunities. I have started small business since I was in kindergarten, albeit not large ones. If you have ever read Andy McKelvey's Bio, he did the same thing. That's what I think the foundation is looking for.

And for those interested, I sell pilot supplies online since I am a pilot myself. If you're nice, I might even PM you a link to my website if you ask. IMO, it's difficult for a teen to have a large business not on the internet mainly because of the anonymity of the internet: nobody knows that a 17-year old kid is selling them their item.

Yeah cc, I agree. I tell all of my friends that they are foolish for taking minimum wage jobs when there are plenty of jobs out there that can pay so much more. One just needs to look for them ... maybe use Andy's Monster.com - which I have used, haha.

I agree with the anonymity of the internet as well, but I've learned that you really can't let age be a factor. If you are confident with yourself and you express that through the way that you speak, the way that you dress and the way that you present yourself, it shouldn't be entirely difficult to land some nice accounts.

I recently turned 18 and it makes everything so much easier too. Now I've been able to sign contracts, open new bank accounts, etc. Makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Edit: I feel the same way cjhmi! haha I think we all do.

Grace, your daughter won the coke scholarship right? did she get this one too?

I was pretty bummed after not getting it; but this scholarship more than makes up for it.

congrats everyone, I didn't win, and I don't really care what people say about web hosting. Entrepreneur is not defined as dealing with people. I can easily own a business where I stay in my house all day long and make thousands a month. I guess you havn't heard of ebay? In this high tech society, there are other means of communicating than actually being in the presence of someone.

Have fun with your restrictive scholarship money, while I enjoy the $1000 checks I get constantly from my advertisers that I am free to use for whatever I wish.

Our tax-free scholarship money :)
