So it’s been a long time since I took my SAT and went to school. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 1998. Now I want to go back to college to study Physics full-time as an undergraduate.
Has anyone gone through that process? Do I need to take the SAT again? Letters of recommendation will have to be from past coworkers, correct? My college professors from the 90’s won’t remember me.
Any experience or advice in that area will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Why bother with undergrad? The point of a graduate program is so that someone who already has a 4 year degree can skip the gened bull and move into what’s important. If you need a refresher/catchup courses you can take classes at the local state or community college, possibly even start on grad classes at the same time or on a part time basis.
As an aside, many schools won’t accept post-bac students.
Like da6onet said, there is no sense in revisiting all the general ed requirements for a bachelor’s degree (unless you just want to). When I looked into this, I found that some graduate programs will accept you and let you test into appropriate undergrad prereq work. In your case I would think that would be Math and Physics. When you complete those, you become more of an official grad student. I think you have to have good GRE scores or whatever they require to be accepted into that type of program. I started the conversation by talking to the Grad school adviser for that major at my local univeristy. For me, it was going to be a very long slog through the prereqs, maybe 5 semesters. I wound up deciding just to get professional certifications instead of a Masters.
I’m curious as to why you want to do this? Career change,. or something else? You say full-time so I assume you don’t need to work to pay the bills.
