What about a near to home get away? A night or two at a hotel or rental and order in food or eat outside to be Covid safe but treat yourselves??

We dined outdoors at a restaurant we enjoy. We may dine out a few more times outdoors while is still in town. We had a nice time.

My parents didn’t want a big party for their 50th (believe me we tried!). I did create a scrapbook for them though which they loved. I contacted all their friends (from around the country) and their current neighbors to send their well wishes and any pix they wanted to contribute. The response was fantastic. I learned a lot about my parents as I got stories and memories from their friends. It was so much fun for all of us! I started a couple months at least in advance just to track down addresses.

@fendergirl If your folks enjoy traveling to MLB games at different parks, then I’d definitely get them great tickets for games at parks where they’ve not yet gone. That sounds like a perfect gift because it’s something they enjoy.
If your parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary, does that mean you are under 40?? Sigh . . . I wish I were 40 again.
