I’ve read some threads that show people having a 5.0 GPA. Is your GPA the average GPAs of ALL your classes(including non-ap courses) or just your AP’s? And isn’t 5.0 the maximum you can get for an AP course? If that is true, then people with a 5.0 GPA would have to be taking all APs …wouldn’t they?

It depends on the grading scale; different schools do it different ways. In my school system, regular classes get 4 points an A, advanced/honors/pre-IB/AG classes get 5 points for an A, and IB/AP classes get 6 points for an A. You add up the points for all your classes and divide by 8. I have a 6.0 because I'm taking all IB/AP classes.

sup , the reason why thye have 5.0's is becuz their honors course counts has an extra point. so if they had all honors/ AP's since freshman year until where they are, it is possible for them to have 5.0's

Yes, it's all in the school. This is of course why most high schools send to colleges how they weight classes, etc. My high school ranks Honors and Pre-IB as +.25 and AP/IB as +1.0.

isn't physical education required at any of your schools? to the best of my knowledge, i dont know any schools that have HONORS PHYSICAL EDUCATION.

since physical education is only 4.0 max, its impossible to get 5.0 when its calculated in the overall GPA

My school doesn't require it beyond freshman year because of funding issues. There are 2,200+ kids at my high school. Also, some larger high schools will offer "honors" weight lifting which entails learning the muscle groups or something ridiculous to get the extra point in credit.

lol + characters

"isn't physical education required at any of your schools? to the best of my knowledge, i dont know any schools that have HONORS PHYSICAL EDUCATION."

I was dirt nasty at team handball

My school has honors gym, but it doesn't matter because gym class isn't calculated into your GPA here anyway. Honors gym is just for kids who like to participate in gym class so they don't get stuck with an unathletic gym class.
You would think a 5.0 would be as high as you could get but a school i know uses an 8.0 scale. THere are soo many GPA scales out there it is impossible to compare GPAs from different schools without knowing the percentages.

At my school, we have an all-subject GPA that includes all classes, including gym and electives (art, autos, clothing, woodworking, etc.), and an academic GPA that only includes math, science, history, english and foreign language. So it's entirely possible to get a 5.0 academic, but not all-subject because we're required to take gym.

Of course, next year they're offering honors gym (which is ridiculous - but that's another thread entirely), so then I suppose it would be possible to get a 5.0 all-subject if you weren't taking any electives.
