5 APs as a senior?

I'm a junior now, and I only have room for 1 AP this year, APUSH. Next year I am doing 4 for sure: AP English, AP Govt, AP Psych, and AP Euro. For my school though, we are required to take a math class senior year. I could take an easy math class that would be an automatic A, or I could take AP Stats. Is stats tough? Is that too much of a workload? I wouldn't be taking the most rigorous APs, but it would be a lot. English at my school is a ton of reading, but not overly difficult. Govt will be new, and the teacher is tough but it will be my favorite class in high school, I am sure of it. Psych will be a lot of memorization and the tests may be difficult (only 3 of them), but there is a lot of extra credit opportunities. Euro would definitely be the hardest. The teacher is a genius, but he teaches college as well, so I hear his teaching style is more like a professor. He lectures (typically about unrelated topics) for the entire hour, then tells you to read 30 pages for homework, and his tests are difficult. I am a good math student, but not extraordinary. I think statistics is interesting, but I'm not sure if that would be too much. Also, there are 2 teachers for stats-- one is supposedly terrible and the other one is excellent. Thoughts?

Stats isn’t bad (at least at my school)

AP Euro is 9000x harder

bbbbuuummp

My oldest is a senior with a heavy AP courseload…although the coursework is not overly difficult for him, the stress of college and scholarship applications on top of the busy schedule has made senior year less fun and more tiresome. When my 2nd is a senior I am going to suggest slightly less rigor - there is a lot going on senior year that can affect your performance.

I’m taking an AP stat online class now as a junior along with another AP class (APUSH) and 12 credit-hours worth of dual-enrollment classes and the work for me is pretty manageable. We’re only about a month into the class now, but AP stat has been extremely easy so far, but then again I’m a natural at heavily logic based classes like statistics. It all depends on your skill set.

I also took AP psych last semester. At my school it’s got a reputation for being boringly easy, and it was. You’re right, it is a lot of memorization, but is definitely one of the easier APs.

If I were you, I’d do AP stat, AP psych, AP gov, AP english, and maybe an AP science since you said your AP euro teacher would be really tough? I don’t really see a reason for 2 AP histories in one year, unless you’re planning to major in the humanities.

I hope this helps, I might be able to help a bit more if I have more info., such as your academic strengths and weaknesses, what you want to major in,etc.

Well I am mentally incapable at science, so that’s out of the question lol :stuck_out_tongue: I think I’m set on what I have, just trying too see the difficulty of the courseload. The euro teacher is one of those teachers you should have before you graduate, but he teaches like a professor.

Hey that’s totally fine, I feel the same way about English Lit classes lol. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Good luck though in all your educational endeavors :)

I hate to bump this, but do you think these classes would benefit me for an International Studies/Relations major? I am thinking of majoring in that, and getting some sort of statistical demographics/politics research job. I think AP English would help with reading comprehension and writing (it’s just AP English, no comp or lit). AP US Govt would help me understand our government better which would be beneficial when studying foreign governments in college, AP Psych might be the least helpful, but I thinking having a basic knowledge of psychology will help with studying demographics possibly. I just think psychology is interesting though, regardless of how helpful it will be. AP Euro will be a good background when studying European governments/history in college. AP Stats would definitely be helpful, giving a basic knowledge of statistical research. I think a minor in statistics or economics would be smart. I might go into a completely different field though, what do I know, I’m still in high school.

I heard that AP Pysch is a joke; self study it and take the AP exam to put a more rigorous class in that place.
I think that you should take a science class to be a well rounded student.

I am strongly against taking APs in subjects just because they may look better, and science classes and my brain do not get along very well. Psych will be fairly easy, but it’s not a joke at my school, the teacher has been teaching it for 30+ years.

Stats is easy here. Take what you will have fun with and don’t get burnt out just to “take more APs.”
