Due to schedule conflicts, my viable AP/Honors choices for my senior courseload are as follows:

Lit, Chem, Gov/Econ, Bio, French
v.

Lit, Chem, Gov/Econ, Bio, French, Psych

I self-studied a 5 in Psych junior year already, but haven't taken the class. Is it pointless if I take the class after I self-studied a 5? Does it look petty? BTW I have no interest in majoring in psychology, and I don't have transportation to community college for any other classes.

Oh, and the free period in option 1 isn't study hall, it's just no class (early dismissal from school).

Yes, it’s pointless to take the class after you already have a 5 on the AP test.

Yes, it’s petty if you are taking the class just because you think it’s an “easy A”

Look at it this way: Since you have no real interest in psych, taking the AP Psych class now is a waste of your time—not just the time you spend in class, but also all the time needed to complete the assignments to earn the “easy A” instead of winding up with a B or a C. You won’t get any additional college credit for taking the AP test again (you might not even be allowed to take it again.) And one more AP Class in a subject that you’re not particularly interested in and that you have already * aced * the AP exam for is not going to be the make-or-break factor in your college applications.

I’m not saying I’m uninterested in it-- it’s really interesting! I just don’t have any future plans in it. Plus, the class covers much more than I reviewed for the AP exam. Oh, and a lot of my friends are gonna be in it. XD I actually think that would be the main factor lol.

Thank you for your advice… you’re right. So you’re saying that I should just do the 5 periods and free period?

I think you should take the class and not report the AP exam score to colleges. That way, the class will be on your transcript and colleges won’t be curious as to why you have already taken the exam.

Take the free period. Having time to do work for a pretty intense courseload will get increasingly valuable as your workload intensifies through the year and up until AP exams.

It’s foolish to take a class you’ve already self-studied a 5 in, unless you wouldn’t report the score to colleges (and why wouldn’t you?).

Yes, my workload will be fairly intense this year, but to be honest it was much more intense last year, as a junior and I managed well.

How bad does it look for me to have a free period senior year when I’m applying to top, Ivy-level schools?
