just to let you know, interviews don't matter much at all.

It's just a way to make alumi feel special for 40 mins.
Ditto what Denzera said. Plus, do Columbia alums really need to feel special by having a 17 year old talk to them? Most alums probably interview people at their jobs from time to time, so it's not like it's a big deal.

I know that b/c I happen to know someone who worked for admissions at an Ivy League school. (We were having a friend to friend conversation, not a admissions officer to applicant convo).

I just paraphrased what he said.

And it wouldn't come from having a 17 yo talking to you, it'd come from knowing that you're kinda in control about this kid's report.

again, i'm just paraphrasing what he said, I wouldn't know anything myself.

Ah, so now you "think" something "applies" to "most Ivy League schools" based on your "paraphrase[]" of something someone said about one Ivy League school. Great!

-how the hell is what I'm saying in any way idiotic?
No offense, but I think your posts speak for themselves.

Well, obviously I'm going to think, how the hell would would I know for sure? You speak as if all Ivy League schools have completely different admissions criteria. And that "someone" worked for freaking admissions, it's not like I pulled that info out of my a s s, like the place most of the ppl who post here get their information from.

He gave me that advice before I did my Harvard interview, which is not the school he worked for. So it DOES apply.

I was just trying to get some facts out there. I get called an idiot for trying to give some advice that actually came from an ex ivy league admissions officer. oh well, I guess that's what I get for being nice? nice.

you DO realize that the ivies are in fact DIFFERENT places right? the general attitude at harvard and columbia are not the same. just like the attitudes at brown and princeton are not the same.

and by the way, i called your post idiotic because you are so sure of an over generalization you've made

How much role does short phone interview plays in the admission? Does interview report has great impact?
A phone interview isn't, ceteris paribus, different than a live interview. It's the "short" part that makes it hard for the interviewer to find out anything meaningful about you (good or bad) that he can convey to the adcoms.

You think that's bad - I had an alum interviewer who promised 5 times to email me and postponed my interview 3 times - I was never able to email a website I built for the occasion and I was rejected ED.

I actually asked the person point blank for the spelling of their name (not a common one) and they refused - promising another email!

Now here's the the real insult to injury - I just got an email saying that "I have been selected for an interview...".

My interviews with Princeton, Cornell, Barnard, UP were all in stellar contrast.
I know that friends with better grades did not get interviews so its not like these do not matter - and my counsellor thinks I should contact Columbia.
