5 on AP Comparative Government with Ethel Wood?

I saw people talking about doing well on AP Comparative Government by just reading this one book. If I wanted to self study it (my school doesn’t have the class) should I self-study it after taking other history classes such as AP US Government or could I still do well by reading the book with no other background in AP history classes?

I would recommend Introducing Comparative Politics: Concepts and Cases in Context, Third Edition in addition to that Ethel Wood. It has helped me better understand some concepts of the course
