5 ?'s about college life

Just out of curiosity… posters like titletown, why do you prefer high school to college?

I only have a couple of main reasons. Making friends and seeking help when I’m struggling in a certain class are those reasons. When I first came to my university I knew no one, and now I know people, but have no close friends like I did in high school. They are more like acquaintances or friends in class. But I don’t drink, smoke, or prefer to go to bars so that really hinders making friends.

I went to a very affluent well to do private school. I graduated 215th out of a class of 385 with a 3.0 GPA and went to a mid range school for me. Big University though, 25,000 kids. I currently have a 3.6 GPA, but this is partly bc I am much more focused and better at balancing time. So it depends

Definately college, the first year of college surpassed the antics of high school all four years. I went to parties almost every weekend (only went out 1-2 nights a week) more than that it interferes with your grades. You are constantly meeting people and you are going out on lunches, going to the gym, going to dates all the time. During finals you may not have much of a life:) but its much better.

2 cont. I do keep in touch with about 12 of my friends from HS (2011 grad). My best friend is playing a d1 sport but we still make a point to call/text once every few weeks. We see each other over breaks. we hang out with a few other friends but for the most part everyone is so different, it is good to reminisce but I wouldnt want to hang out with them for the rest of my life. Stay in touch with a few so you wont be too bored at home.

Lectures, notes, powerpoint, clickers, you get the point.

I usually take time each day to get lunch/dinner with friends, go to the library, and hit the gym. And some me time, at the beginning of college you will be shocked how little of it you have.

5 things you should know

 1. Get along with your roomate
 2. Just because you can drink( well you know) doesnt mean you should get blackout drunk all the time, know your limits. The number 5 kid at my hs failed out of school bc he discovered the joys of alcohol (sacrasm)
 3. Most people find a special someone during the year, but it usually doesnt last long. If it goes on for a while great if it only lasts a few weeks or a month, thats fine too. There will be more around the block.
 4. sleep is golden
 5. Education comes first, its fun to go out and have fun, but remember you are there for a education. get your schoolwork done during the week so you can have a little fun on friday/sat nights!

What is the course load like compared to high school?

Lighter “work” load, at least because there’s more time to do it, but much more challenging material.

How has your social life changed? Do you still communicate with your high school friends?

I go out more. I occasionally communicate with people from high school – maybe three people.

How do professors teach?

Depends on the professor and the size/type of class.

How do you budget your time between classes, studying, and work (if you have a job)?

Set a regular bed/wake-up time. Figure out regular blocks of time to study nearby your classes. Take naps.
