I was looking at UMich engineering and they have this thing called Simultaneous Grad/Undergrad Study (SGUS) where you get a bachelors and masters in 5 years.

I'm sure other colleges probably have something similar. I was just wondering if anyone could give me more info on this, like when do you start taking grad school classes - your 5th year? And is rushing the material really worth it?

I was thinking about undergrad mechE and master's for BME.

Thanks!

Stanford has a co-terminal program that allows students to get a Bachelors and Masters degree in 5 years. It's a pretty flexible program (the two degrees can be in different subjects). Of course, there is a rigorous application process and many grad departments require those students to take the GRE's.

I go to UMich. Read the fine print closely for SGUS, it usually requires a high GPA (3.500 for some programs, and yes, that is hard to get).

isn't, at least if you do undergrad and grad in the same subject, getting a masters in the fifth year highly doable anyways?
